When do I test with late ovulation? (Etc.)

Hiya everyone. This is my first post so hoping its right. Ive been trying to get pregnant since march. I came off the mini pill and immediately had a normal cycle lasting no more than 31 days. Whenever i have tried to use ovulation tests, they have been in the normal ovulation window and seemed to always be negative.

Now, i am 7 days late on my period, nearly 8. I felt a pain on the 27th day of my cycle, that day i also had intercourse. 6 days later, i felt a dull ache in my lower stomach which lasted a couple of days. Fast forward to today which is 5 days after the last ache and im having a very similar ache which doesnt quite feel like period pain.

My questions are,

  1. Could the 27th day of my cycle have been late ovulation?
  2. Could 6 days later be implantation?
  3. If the other 2 are possible and baring in mind the rest of the story, when should i test to show something up?
  4. If i take a test on 13 DPO, would that show up in my case?
  5. And while im here, if its positive, how does it work when it comes to length of time pregnant if conception happened so long after first day of period? (You dont need to answer this one, i can ask in another thread if i need to 😊)

As far as other symptoms go, i have been little grumpy and fatigued on some days but more notably my joints are popping and aching a little more than usual (i have Hypermobility syndrome)

I thank anyone taking the time to read this or answer this. Really appreciate it.

EDIT: it may be worth noting that i did a first response test on the possible 8DPO and got no line. But also that my family has a history of PCOS

Hi, I'm afraid I can't answer all your questions but I'm interested as I'm pretty sure I'm on my way to a long cycle this month.
In regards to testing, I would suppose that you can still test after the normal tww regardless of how late you ovulated in your cycle. But using an early test you could possibly get a result sooner. So yes, 13 days after you think you ovulated would be a good time to test in my opinion. Good luck xx

Thank you for your reply and input. After that post, it crossed my mind as well that its possible maybe implantation happened today instead but probably would still show up Saturday if that was the case. But then that leaves me wonder, does the body stop your period after conception knowing that possible implantation might happen? Its all so very complicated isnt it.

What does Tww mean btw?

2ww is 2 week wait, basically the 2 weeks following ovulation on a standard cycle. Either 2 weeks till af or test day.

It's possible you have ovulated late and if you based that as day 27 then your be looking to test 12/14 days afterwards.

Also if you're pregnant and you know when ovulation took place they'll date it from there

Thanks so much for your reply. Quite helpful. So 13dpo should show then if that sunday was my ovulation date? All i have are symptoms to go by unfortunately when it comes to ovulation date. But if the test comes up positive when on Tuesday it was negative, i think its safe to assume thats an accurate ovulation date.

If the date starts from the ovulation date then, would that mean that its the start of the first trimester? I mainly ask as well because if i am pregnant, im terrified of a miscarriage and i hear the 12 weeks from the start is the rocky bit so i guess it helps to know when it starts

Thanks again btw

Is it possible to conceive days before period is due, then implant days after period is missed?

Hey @FairyTaz, so your first trimester will be counted as the first day of your last period if you aren't sure when ovulation occurred (and with the NHS even if you do). When you have your 12 week scan they will date your pregnant and adjust your due date if need be.

FairyTaz · 19/09/2019 22:59

Thanks for your reply @MamaPeas. Seems strange to include all that extra time of no ovulation in the final due date

I think it's because most people can reliably give the date of their last period, but ovulation is hard to pinpoint even with test etc.
