Ovaries overacting. What does this mean?

Hi,

I'm 35 and my DW and I are at the beginning of our TTC journey and I've recently had blood tests to check hormone levels. Originally it came back as all within normal range, but during my follow up appointment with my GP to discuss the results and possibly further testing, she told me the ovary hormone was slightly higher than it should be.

She explained that it could mean early stages of peri menopause, although I have no other symptoms, but it could also be my body panicking, as I'm getting older and my ovaries are over working.

This may sound crazy, but since deciding we were going to try for a baby, my cycle seemed to change. I've always had erratic, all over the place cycles, ranging from anything between 30-35 days, but over the past 6 months or so, for the first time ever, I'm having 28 day cycles, ovulating on day 14 (according to the tests) I just feel much more in tune with my body.

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else has this. My GP didn't seem concerned, but wasn't sure if maybe she was saying it doesn't automatically mean they'll be issues with TTC, but it could be...iyswim?

On the contrary, if your ovaries are over working, could that mean your chances of conception are greater?

Many thanks Smile

Hi @nobigotsallowed I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom regarding the overactive Ovaries but I just want to let you know that you're not alone in your cycles changing since TTC. I'll be 35 next month and have been TTC for over a year. I have PCOS and my cycles have always been irregular, anything from 29-44 days since I started tracking them over 2 years ago. However, since we'Ve started trying, they are now 32 days (quite consistently) and I've been ovulating CD18 each month. I'm not complaining as it's a good thing to have a solid pattern but I find it really weird/interesting.

Hopefully you don't have any problems conceiving (just don't pin your hopes on it happening immediately).

Wishing you and your DW all the luck x

Hi @Each2TheirOwn

Thanks so much for your reply. That's very interesting to hear that you also found your cycles changed once making the decision you wanted to TTC. Your mind is a very powerful thing, so who knows.

I'm sorry that you've been struggling to conceive. Assuming you're having all the usual investigations? x

Sometimes I wonder if we were silly to leave it until now, but so many things got in the way, including finances, so we thought we were being sensible. As soon as we made the decision though, I suddenly felt really old.

@nobigotsallowed I know what you mean but to be honest, I've not felt ready until now. I didn't meet my husband until I was almost 31 so it's only now (although I still feel too young 😂) that I feel ready to be a mum (god that sounds scary) lol.

I was referred to the fertility clinic a few months ago and have my first appointment next month. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19 and had loads of scans, internals and blood tests then so I'm assuming it'll be the same again 😫 I'm really hoping to fall before I have to go through all of that again (I have 1 last cycle to get lucky) 🤞🏼

Have you started trying yet or were you just getting everything checked out in preparation? X

nobigotsallowed · 16/09/2019 19:26

@EachToTheirOwn, keeping everything crossed for you 🤞🍀

No, not yet. Tbh we haven't been sure which path to go down- shall we go straight to IVF or give IUI a try? We've come to the conclusion we're going to give IUI a go at least once and then re-evaluate, should we need to. Also loading up on supplements and attempting to lead a healthy lifestyle in the run up to officially trying, but not letting that take over. Can't say I'm not really nervous, as well as excited obviously! x

@nobigotsallowed it is very exciting, and nerve wrecking! Best of luck with whichever method you decide to go with. Wishing you every success ❤️ x
