Irregular periods

First time posting - hello Smile hopefully this won’t be too long!

I’m mid 20s. I came off the pill at the beginning of the year after being on it for 8/9 years. I’ve tracked 5 cycles since. The cycle lengths have been: 40, 43, 36, 34, 44. Would this be considered irregular periods?

I’m new to this tracking cycles & I’m struggling to get what is “normal” & what is a cause for concern. I have worried myself by googling it & now I’m convinced I’ve got irregular periods & won’t be able to conceive Sad I have wondered about if I have PCOS, as I have acne, but I don’t have any of the other symptoms at all.

Is it too soon into trying to conceive to go the doctors to get checked out? Any answers with experience about conceiving with irregular periods, or how much your personal cycles vary each month will really help me in deciding whether I should be concerned or overly paranoid. As I’m sure you all can relate, trying to conceive is all I can think about at the moment & I don’t know whether panicking unnecessarily. Thank you everyone

Since I was 17 my periods were always irregular . Wouldn't come for months. Eventually doc put me on pill to regulate me. But for me I always thought I needed scanned to have a look.
Anyways years passed I met my fella and came off pill. My irregular periods came back but I fell pg. Sadly I lost that one further on in pg.
Here I am now 2 children and I have just got my bfp other day.
This cycle I've caught on is 34days long.
Just keep testing for ovulation.
I have heard Angus cactus meant to meant to help regulate too. But I would also go see ur doc and ask for something that will help u aswel.

I have extremely irregular periods, Googled it like crazy, convinced myself I was having early menopause, went slightly mad and then conceived.

I know it's basically impossible but with hindsight I would say worry less, track less, shag more 👍

It is possible it is your body still withdrawing from the pill. It can take up to a year to regulate.

But yes, those would be considered irregular cycles. A gp is unlikely to 'do' anything but say to wait until a year ttc... You're aways off panic stations!!

Were they regular before the pill?

@TtcanotherG thanks for the reply! I’m sorry for your earlier loss, but congratulations for your BFP! That gives me hope so thank you, I think I’ll visit the doctors to see what they suggest, might put my mind to rest at the least!

@Croquembou oh that’s good to know!! I know I definitely need to chill out & let nature take its course for a few more months but it’s hard Grin

@physicskate I did wonder about that, I was on dianette for the last 2 years & I know that’s one of the “stronger” pills so could take longer to get out of my system. I went on the pill at 16 so tbh I can’t really remember/aware of how regular my periods were before! Thank you for your reply - I know I’m prematurely panicking but can’t stop myself!! Grin

@Pawsin I’m in a similar situation to you! Came off the pill in February and my cycles have been 38, 28, 33, 42, 39 so far. Like you I have worries myself about it! I would recommend going to the GP, I didn’t think mine would do anything so early but she has referred me for blood tests and also a pelvic ultrasound just to check that everything is ok. She also said I would be able to have the day 21 bloods in my next cycle to check for ovulation. It made me feel much better knowing that things are going to get checked out 😊 they do say it can take up to a year after stopping the pill to regulate though so we should both try not to worry yet (easier said than done!)

@MrsB25 I’ve made an appointment for next week just to put my mind at rest! Yes, at least then if we do have PCOS or another issue going on we can start managing it - I think it’s the unknown that is the worse!! I think what’s worrying me most is that I’m not ovulating - I’ve decided to do the temperature measuring to track ovulation in the mean time whilst I wait for my appointment/results. Although all this worrying is probably messing my cycle up even more with all the stress Grin I hope it all goes well with your checks

Good idea to go to the GP- I definitely felt better afterwards. I agree with the biggest worry being not ovulating- although I did read that even if that is the case, it can usually be easily solved. I tried the ovulation test sticks for a couple of cycles but never got a positive, I don’t know if it was that I was testing at the wrong time with my cycles being so long or if I wasn’t ovulating at all. Might try those again next cycle, it’s just hard at work to make sure to have a full bladder and take them at the same time roughly each day!
