Anyone know the reason for irregular cycles?

So what causes your cycle to be different each month? I’m not talking massive differences but for example the last 6 months mine have been; 30, 30, 31, 37, 28, 28

I don’t know whether to expect it tomorrow (cd28) or anywhere in the next 10 days! Hmm

Mine too! I have no idea why though. Will it cause problems i wonder.

Pinkblueberry · 22/08/2019 15:28

Yours seems fairly even except for the 37 days. There’s not a great difference between 30 and 28 days - your ovaries don’t have to be calendar precise. The odd irregularity can be down to lots of things, life changes like moving house or even a long journey somewhere - anything that causes your body a bit of stress or confusion I suppose. I never tracked mine that carefully, but would know the day before due to light cramps.

Mine differ from 25 to 35 days usually. I think thats quiet a big difference so im not sure if this will affect fertility. Yours seems more regular op so probably not worth worrying about.

As someone who has always had very irregular cycles, what I find strange is the fact that some women genuinely do have regular cycles of around 28 days 🤣 I think my ovaries just didn’t get the memo!

@GeePipe in terms of causing problems, slightly irregular periods are unlikely to cause any issues with conceiving. My cycle lengths have been known to vary between 27 and 42 days and I have a 2.5 year old and am 30 weeks pregnant.

GeePipe · 22/08/2019 17:13

Thars great to hear Major congratulations! Is my biggest fear even though mine have always been this irregular. X

MajorFaffington · 22/08/2019 17:17

@GeePipe I only just saw your second post, think the NHS say cycles 21-35 days are within the “normal” range and shouldn’t vary in length by more than 20 days.

MajorFaffington · 22/08/2019 17:18

Thank you, cross posted again 🤣

GeePipe · 22/08/2019 17:22

😂 you have cheered me up today i feel normal for once haha. Sorry for the post hijack op hope your still reading!

MajorFaffington · 22/08/2019 19:13

I sort of forgot you weren’t OP @GeePipe 🤣

Hope you feel helped by replies @TwinkleStars15. Variation in cycle length is really very normal and without any explanation usually (apart from the fact ovaries don’t have calendars as PP said!)

I know it can be really annoying if your cycles aren’t predictable- perhaps you could start tracking ovulation, then you will get a better idea of when you are likely to come on/get a BFP?

KatBeCool · 22/08/2019 19:21

If it's within 4-day difference, it's still considered regular. It's possible to have an off cycle here and there, usually happens due to stress. Yours look fine.

You ovulated on different cycle days. That causes different cycle lengths. If you know what day you ovulated and hen how many days between ovulation and the start of af, you can tell how long a particular cycle will be. Or is that not what you meant?
