Hey all,

So I’m TTC (trying to conceive) baby no 2. Ovulation was later than normal in my last cycle (12 days ago) and normal time period was due between mon - wed (today). Not sure if late ovulation would have meant later period though?!

Anyway - on Sunday I did too OPKS - both had a faint test line, too faint for positive ovulation so having used this method to predict DD1 I assumed perhaps I’d caught and the test line was HCG.

Sun/Mon ovary pains, mon night pink discharge, yesterday dark brown discharge, today spotting dark red. OPK’s now negative so clearly no HCG detected. Really bad period type pain around lower back and entire pelvis and only spotting - no actual period.

What is happening?!? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated - google is the enemy right now!! I can only assume it’s a chemical?

Using OPKs is not a reliable way to predict positive pregnancy - the only test that can do that would actually be a HPT.

Late ovulation would mean that you would also have a period later as the luteal phase tends to be less variable. So if you usually have AF 14 days after ovulation, you will still have a 14 day luteal phase after your ovulation.

I'm afraid it's difficult to determine if you have had a chemical pregnancy unless you can do a HPT and see if you get a second line. Try a sensitive one like FRER test. Fingers crossed it's a sticky one for you x

Opks don't pick up hcg? Some women do get an lh surge before their period so will show a faint test line on an opk.

If pregnant opks can show positive, so the test line is as dark as the control line. I don't think a faint opk means you were pregnant.

If you ovulated later you'd expect your period to be late too. Sounds like a strange cycle rather than a chemical.
