How long to wait after a c section to TTC

Hi all, I’ve searched a few historic threads on this and seen mixed results - I had a c section for lack of progress in labour and an keen to try for a second but uncertain how long to wait - I see some say a year or longer, others 6 months - interested in actual people’s experiences ! And did you opt for a section second time around (I know that’s a whole other thread !!!)

I had 23 months between 2 c sections.
First emergency, second elective.

I think they advise not being pregnant for 1 year after

I was told two years though i dont known if that was because it was an emergency c-section.

Its been two years, i think we will wait another two 😂 toddlers are hard!!

I had around17months between sections 2 and 3 (so around 8months to get pregnant again). My GP couldn't find anything that suggested a particular time to wait but she thought 6 months. No-one mentioned it during pregnancy

My dr said give it 9 months and my boys are exactly 18 months apart. Both Emergency CS

I had emergency csection in December. They didn't say a thing to me about not getting pregnant, I'm now 12 weeks and expecting elective csection in January with twins.

I got pregnant 7 months after my first, at no point was I told to wait a certain time before ttc nor did they give particular warnings during my second pregnancy. I was encouraged to go for natural birth second time around but it wasnt to be so I had a second c section. I would say that if you've healed well after your first and feel good there shouldnt be any problems but maybe speak to your gp.

Thanks for the responses! Ha when I asked my GP she said she had no idea and that 3 months was probably fine (which I know is not the normal advice !)

I asked my IVF clinic about that too - they're rules are 18 months because the scar makes everything in that area weaker

They said they may reduce to 12 months if had letter from the hospital

During my C section they told me 18 months. But I don’t know if they meant wait 18 months to conceive or that you could conceive after 9 months then the birth would be 18 months after the first baby?

JustbeaDentist · 07/08/2019 16:44

I was pregnant 6 months after the first one.
I refused to try VBAC due to the risk the scar site could pop open Shock

MummaGiles · 07/08/2019 16:45

I had my second section a few weeks ago (so this is still fresh in my mind) and they advised me not to TTC for a year.

My consultant told me that ideally you want a year between c section births.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 07/08/2019 16:52

I have 19months between my dc. Emergency section at 5cm for foetal distress with my first and vbac with watersbroken and synto drip with my second. Nobody mentioned being more concerned due to the gap between them.

CrazyFooLady · 07/08/2019 20:00

I had a year and 2 weeks to the day between each c section....... I don't recommend it either lol

Lauren122 · 20/08/2019 18:15

I had an emergency section with my first, fell pregnant 3 months later with my second! By accident but a blessing none the less. I didn't have any complications with second pregnancy although was induced. The main thing is they can't give you a hormone drip and it's dangerous if your contractions are intense xx
