Should I get a Fertility MOT?

Hello

I wonder if anyone has experience with those Fertility MOT things you can get privately?

I'm 39 and I have only just gotten my head around possibly wanting to try soon (I'm in a newish relationship and this has been a difficult journey to get to this stage).

I have have high levels of anxiety and OCD so I'm already catastrophising that there is not point trying as I might already be infertile. I did some ovulation tests mid cycle when I was supposed to be 'ovulating' and they were negative.

Do you think it's worth having a fertility MOT first to see how things are before I start panicking and trying? I keep reading mixed things about them!

Have you been to your GP first? They can carry out the blood tests which check for ovulation (or refer you to a hospital for the actual test bit!). Worth doing that first, I think - you have tests at two points in your cycle and it gives you a good starting point. After all, if you're not ovulating then they can help you further anyway, and that can be relatively easy to sort out.

After that, yes, I found the fertility MOT useful but not as useful as the actual medical intervention part - I had no problems ovulating but later went for an HSG and laparoscopy to check for more issues (which I didn't have, thankfully).

Would your DP also go for any tests required? Assuming your DP is male - if his sperm count is low then even you being super fertile might not be enough, that was the problem with me and my DP!

You could try your GP but I need to be really honest here your age does count against you - IVF on the Nhs isn't available over 40 and I've had friends so are 39 be refused because they would be 40 during the treatment

I would pay to go privately - there are often deals on and so cost about £500 for all the different tests - I'd get it done sooner rather than later
