Is a fertilised egg visible pre implantation on ultrasound?

Does anyone know if a doc can tell on an ultrasound if an egg has been fertilised?
I am having fertility treatment at the moment and had an ultrasound last week. The doc said she could tell I had ovulated but not if I might be pregnant or not. I wasn't able to do the deed after the scan as my husband is away so I'm keen to know if I was 'pregnant' before the scan if she would have been able to tell.. Does anyone have any ideas? X

Sorry its not possible for anyone to see eggs on an ultra sound. Women are born with 1 million in their overies, they are visible under microscope only.

Pregnancy tests are your friend

Thank you! I thought that was the case, but someone said to me that the doc would have been able to see if the egg was fertilised... as the cells of a fertilised egg duplicate so quickly... I always thought they were too small to see on an ultrasound too though.. I think the doc must have just seen a ruptured empty follicle which is how she knew I'd ovulated.
Means I can still have hope that this month is the month...
Like you say - I need to wait and do a test!

As far as I know doctors use the thickness of the uterus lining to determine cycle and if you have ovulated.

I really hope you get the positive test you're after! The waiting for results is the worst!

What the Dr probably saw was the residual egg follicle space post release on your ovary. Even when having IVF embryo transfer all they can see is a tiny dot on a massively magnified screen once the transfer is complete - and even then, they scan the transfer catheter with a microscope to confirm all embryos have been transferred rather than relying on the scanner alone.

I went to my ob at 4 weeks basically. And the only thing that was there was a tiny round bubble with a solid dot in the middle. Massively magnified, of course, as the whole thing would normally be the size of a poppy seed.

At 6 weeks, it was a large transparent irregular bubble with a solid pea in the middle.

At 8 weeks, it's a bean.

They can see the remains of the follicle that released the egg, though, so that was probably what she was commenting on.
