Mini Pill Mishap - thoughts appreciated

I was on the mini pill but not very good.

I would take it around the same time every day, not exactly.

I would miss 1-2 pills every month.

EVERY time I missed a pill or was more than a few hours late I would have a bleed. Sometimes some spotting, some times a full on period.

I also continued to have changeable mucus through the month

I understand stopping ovulation isn’t the mini pills primary role so I assumed I was ovulating still

I missed a pill and had a full bleed 28 days ago

I had sex 15 days ago. I took a pill that night but none since.

I have not had even a hint of a bleed since stopping the pill.

11 days ago I got a few days of increased vaginal mucus

An ‘early’ home pregnancy kit this afternoon was negative

I know it’s really really unlikely but this is super doing my head in. The no bleeding after stopping the pill just doesn’t make sense

Am I really over thinking this? Is it definitely ‘game over’ this time? Or is there still a chance?

Are you trying to get pregnant? Because if not the mini pill is clearly not the contraceptive for you.

IsobelRae23 · 22/07/2019 17:38

Are you try to get pregnant or not?

DoingMyHead1n · 22/07/2019 17:54

I’d rather not answer that because it seems to influence how people answe

IYSWIM

If I say I’m not I’ll eat told I’ve majorly balls up and am at great risk of being pregnant

If I say I am I’ll get told it’s so unlikely as to be basically impossible

Well, whether you are trying or not does make a difference, doesn't it? Because if you really don't want a baby, even a relatively small chance of one due to being sloppy with contraception is a massive, life-changing, possibly even catastrophic event. Whereas if you would actively like to be pregnant, its probably better not to get your hopes up for a low chance. It's what industries call a "low probability high impact" event (which, incidentally, because of the high impact you must always plan for, because a tiny chance is very different from no chance and once it's happened it's too fucking late.

I'm guessing you wouldn't be taking the minipill if you were actually trying. But honestly, yes, if you miss pills every month and struggle to take it bang on time it's probably not the contraceptive for you because for it to be effective you absolutely must be consistent. You are probably not pregnant but you might be. So you will have to wait and test again in a few days or a week.

DoingMyHead1n · 22/07/2019 18:06

So after another week you think that’s the end of any possibility?

I wasn’t trying. But would be quite thrilled really. Either way has pros and cons so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, unless you only had sex once there isn't really an end to the possibility until periods resume, but you'd generally expect a pregnancy to be showing clearly on a test by 3+ weeks after the possible conception. But sometimes things show up late or you randomly skip a period for no reason. Technically any woman between 12 and 50 who has had a P in her V in the last nine months could be pregnant.

No one can work out what your individual chances are of getting pregnant but based on improper use of the mini pill but in a year, of 100 women taking the mini pill not as it says in the instructions 9 will get pregnant.

Your individual chance - could be anything.

DoingMyHead1n · 22/07/2019 18:24

Yes sex only once (LDR not random!)
