Stopping the pill and starting Seven Seas

So I’m stopping the pill next week and just wondered how soon I can start taking my conception pills to help me get pregnant?

I’ll be stopping my pill then I’ll have a period, can I start taking them as soon as my period ends? I didn’t know if the pill will still be in my system and it would mess my hormones up... thanks.

What? You mean the conception vitamins by the brand Seven Seas? They don’t help you get pregnant.

PolkadotLollipop · 19/07/2019 13:57

They are just a multivitamin to support your body during conception. They contain folic acid so that if you do conceive, you are taking the recommended dose to help prevent neural tube defects in the developing pregnancy (associated with low folic acid levels). In other words, you can start taking them as soon as you want.

They are called “Seven Seas ‘Trying for a Baby” and all of the reviews say they have helped people get pregnant so.

I think it's luck to be honest. Aren't they just called that because they contain the vitamins advised to get on top of when trying/pregnant?

I've taken them and haven't fallen pregnant yet. I'm going back to the boots brand folic acid and getting the other from diet.

adele13x · 19/07/2019 15:21

How long have you been taking them?

They can't have possibly helped anyone get pregnant, there is absolutely no wya it says that on the box... so you're just listening to anecdotal evidence subject to confirmation bias.

The only thing you want to take is a folic acid supplement.

You can take them now. As others have mentioned, it is just a multivitamin suitable for those who are pregnant.
You aren't supposed to take certain vitamins in high doses ie vitamin A if pregnant, hence its a slightly different formula to your regular multivitamin.

The main thing you need to take is Folic acid. This is because low folic acid can impact babies brain and spinal development, and most people are already 4-6 weeks pregnant at least before they confirm pregnancy, and this is when those parts of a baby have already begun developing.

You can get folic acid either by itself ie folic acid from Boots, or within a 'pregnancy vitamin' ie seven seas or pregnacare or similar.

I have just been taking folic acid until now (still TTC) as they are far cheaper than the 'sevens seas'. I will probably move to an actual 'pregnancy vitamin' if I become pregnant.

The point is, that it won't "help you get pregnant"

00100001 · 19/07/2019 16:10

and Seven Seas are super expensive...!

Bol87 · 19/07/2019 16:15

Adele - it’s a multivitamin, plain & simple. Just like any other multivitamin you can buy. There’s various brands who do pre-pregnancy multivitamins. You can take it when not pregnant, I carried on taking mine after pregnancy for a while for the extra vitamins. Or you could just take a genetic multivitamin for the same affect. There is zero affect on your hormones from vitamins.

Vitamins are of course great to keep you healthy & being healthy can contribute to healthy fertility but they don’t ‘help you get pregnant’.. fertility is mostly pot luck.

I use the seven seas trying for a baby & it took me 3 months first time & 4 months this time. My lovely friend also took them religiously for three years and had to have IVF.

You should ideally take folic acid for 3 months prior to pregnancy & all through your first trimester. So get started now if you plan to start trying!

Of course women who were actively trying to get pregnant fell pregnant. They just happened to be taking these vitamins at the time. I ate a lot of cheese when I was TTC and fell pregnant within 3 months, did cheese help me fall pregnant? No, sperm did.

Honestly. By all means take your pregnancy vitamins. Folic acid is a good thing but please don’t believe every 5 star consumer review you read.

SinkGirl · 19/07/2019 16:31

Folic Acid doesn’t help you get pregnant. It’s recommended you supplement it to prevent neural tube defects. They won’t make conception more likely.

twattymctwatterson · 19/07/2019 16:47

Op these pills won't help you get pregnant Grin. It's just a vitamin supplement. The ingredients are folic acid, B and D vitamins and iron. They won't make you more fertile

Pinkstars2501 · 19/07/2019 18:42

@adele13x a few months.

They don't help you get pregnant. They're a pill containing the vitamins recommend to support a foetus in pregnancy.

The people who review these things were actively trying to get pregnant, so of course that's what the reviews say. They probably also tracked using opks and/or bbt, so were having sex at the right time. Then leaving the reviews.

Celebelly · 19/07/2019 18:43

They're just multivitamins, as others have said. You don't have to stop your pill to take them, just like you wouldn't stop it to take any vitamins normally.

As everyone mentioned, the typical prenatal supplements are vitamins and minerals to help the mom not become deficient and to help support a growing baby. Other supplements like CoQ10 have been studied for fertility support, for example.
