No increase in BBT after ovulation

Hi everyone,

So I got a positive OPK and egg white CM 2 days ago which I think means I ovulated yesterday but when I took my BBT this morning there was no rise at all really.

Does anyone know if this means I didn't ovulate or do some people just not get a rise or maybe later on?

Thanks for any help anyone can give! This is my first month of temperature charting after 2 and a half years of TTC so I'm still getting used to it!

Hi @Beckyttc you can ovulate between 12-36 hours after a positive opk so you might not have ovulated yet. It could also be that your body tried but then didn't for some reason, so you see an lh surge.

Are you fairly regular?

Have your temps increased at all? I had a slow rise once and it wasn't clear I'd ovulated but I had as they increased over time.

Good luck.

Thank you!

I went from 35.91 to 35.97 so not much change at all but I'll see if it continues to go up tomorrow.

I do have PCOS and I think your body trying to ovulate and not quite getting there can be quite common with women that have PCOS so maybe it is that, I'll keep taking OPKs just in case!

Becky

Both OPKs and temp charting are uneasy bedfellows if PCOS is present and I would refrain from using either (fellow PCOS patient). OPKs should certainly not be used because these read LH; as such levels are often raised with PCOS the kit could be giving you a misleading result.

After 2.5 years of ttc as well you are well beyond using such things; are you currently under the care of a subfertility unit?.

No as I started TTC when I was 23 I felt my doctors never really took me seriously as I was quite young so just told me to carry on trying, I had an ectopic in July last year so they then wouldn't do anything for another year which brings me to now, I am currently having bloods taken to check my progesterone levels but not sure what they will do after that

Took my temp again this morning and no change, so frustrating not knowing if I actually reached ovulation or not!

Have you got a picture of your chart @Beckyttc?

Beckyttc · 19/07/2019 13:18

It looks all over the place to me, I'm starting to think I'm not taking it right but I use a BBT thermometer and take it as soon as I wake up before I get up/speak etc

You are using the thermometer ok. The problem here is the polycystic ovarian syndrome. Temp charting and pcos are very uneasy bedfellows and your chart is nigh on impossible to interpret with any real degree of accuracy.

Many pcos patients experience such problems with them charting with charts that go on to look like the Rocky Mountains. I would no longer temp chart or use op kits.

Given your pcos diagnosis and previous ectopic pg they should be far more proactive, merely testing progesterone levels is poor. I would look into seeking a referral from another sub fertility unit.

I'm having my last blood test on Tuesday and then should have the results 5 days after that so I will push for them to take things further once I have the results back, thank you!
