Likelihood of being pregnant?

Hi there

My partner and I had unprotected sex after a night out 14/07 (ovulation around 15/07) I went and got the MAP around 9 hours later. An hour after I took it, I was sick. I called the pharmacist who said there was no need for me to go back and take another (seems strange). I got pregnant 3 years ago and took the same pill which failed and I became pregnant. What is the likelihood of becoming pregnant? We are not quite ready for a child though if it were to happen would not be the end of the world! Any tips and info would be appreciated.

Thanks

According to google if you're sick within 2 hours of taking the map then you should contact the gp or pharmacist and be given another. I'd go to a late opening pharmacy or first thing tomorrow

If you don't plan of trying for a baby you could also ask about longer term more reliable methods of contraception.

There's always a risk of pregnancy

You should have had another dose of MAP if you had diarrhoea or vomiting within 3hr of taking it.

You can take levonelle up to 72hrs after unprotected sex, and up to 5d for Ella one.

BUT..... there is always a risk you could have ovulated slightly early in which case the MAP will not help at all. It works by delaying ovulation.

To be honest the gold standard is a copper coil which can be put in up to 5 days after unprotected sex or 4"5d after your earliest predicted date of ovulation - whichever is latest. So you're still in time for one of those and it's the most effective. Your GP or sexual health clinic should be able to sort it urgently for you as emergency contraception.

Hi @Ribeebie and @Michellebops

Thanks for your replies! When I was sick the tablet didn’t come back up just lots of liquid that tasted horrible like medicine ... the pharmacist said because the tablet didn’t come back up I wouldn’t need another one . Not sure what to believe, tried to call my doctor who said they would call me back as was busy. Not sure what to do in this situation

Even with everything timed perfectly, there's an approximately 20 - 30% chance of pregnancy (though it can be much lower than this depending on age). This is the percentage given by studies in couples actively ttc, NOT for failed contraception, accidents, etc...

@physicskate reason I’m worried is I got pregnant two years ago even after taking the MAP, we had intercourse the exact same day of my cycle last tome and i became pregnant! I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks
