First time blood tests - PCOS?

Hi everyone - I’m new here! I had an appointment with the dr last week and they suspect I may have PCOS. A baby wasn’t on my radar for at least another year but this has changed things slightly for me and hubby. I’m now petrified I’ll not be able to conceive. I had blood tests, and got a call today to say the doctor wanted to speak to me first thing on Monday. Has anyone been through anything similar before? Thanks!

@amysara24 hello, blood test is only the first step. It could be they've also tested you for iron levels and B12 and this needs addressing. They generally do a good blood MOT. If your hormone levels are a bit off they'll probably look to scan you. This is the only real way they'll be able to tell. I was 16 when I found out. Lots of people do go on to have children, I have friends with PCOS with a number of children and I've friends with no obvious fertility issues and don't. The best thing you can do is keep a check of your weight at all times . Is your cycle regular?

Thanks. I stopped taking my pill over a year ago and haven’t had a period since Sad so they wanted to check to see if I’m ovulating at all. From the consultation the dr said it sounded like PCOS, and even went on to mention IVF (which terrifies me at the first appointment!). DH and I have started to take Wellman & Wellwoman pre conception vitamins to keep ourselves in check. Dr mentioned Clomid, so I’m wondering if he will suggest it on Monday. It’s quite a scary time, just not knowing and waiting!

Have you looked into Myo-inositol? Powder form is best as you'll need 4g. Takes a few months but I think it's helped bring my periods down. I was 74, then 54, now 40. But sometimes Clomid is what's needed ☺️

Just to let you know I have it and I also have a beautiful dd whose 7 months Flowers

I hadn’t heard of myo-inositol before but a quick google and it sounds quite interesting. I think I’ll do some more reading about it and possibly try. Obviously the doctor may have something totally different to tell me on Monday but it’s a long weekend waiting!!
It’s really great to hear of some success stories too, and congratulations!!

I got diagnosed with PCOS years ago based on one blood test and my irregular periods, worried myself silly for years about never having babies. They were wrong, I just had a lost of cysts on my ovaries and I'm just about to cuddle my 3 month old naturally conceived baby. Please don't worry - PCOS or not, it doesn't make conceiving impossible. :)

Thanks everyone. So the doctor phoned this morning, he said my testosterone levels are slightly high and my FAI is a bit off. There’s also no sign at all that I’m ovulating Sad. I have another appointment for more bloods next week to check again, and he’s ordering a pelvic ultrasound. He’s said that if there are still no signs, I may need help inducing ovulation. Does anyone have any experience with this?

When you ask your doctor about inositol, you may also want to ask about CoQ10 for general PCOS support.

@Mycrazylife85 @ckc45d10 I mentioned myo-inositol to my GP today and he said he’s never heard of it 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’ve already got some though and started taking it. Been using LH tests regularly to check but nothing yet. Have been referred to different clinics so hopefully I’ll get some sort of news soon...
