Faint line on pregnancy test then period?

Hey, so I think I ovulated in the middle of June, I did a pregnancy test a couple of days ago and there was a faint line. I did another test this morning and there was also a faint line but a bit later on I started bleeding which now I think may be my period. Anyone got any ideas why the pregnancy test is still showing up with a faint line?
Thanks!

Hi there, I’m so sorry but it would sound like you’ve had a chemical pregnancy. This is where your egg is fertilised but fail to implant. These are so so common (I’ve had two the last two months!) but because we all test so early, we see lines where as in the past people thought their period was just a little late xxx

The faint line will disappear over the next week or so - test every few days and when it disappears you’ll be ok to try again (it’s just the residual HCG). Hugs to you - this is crappy news if you’ve been TTC xxx

Thank you for your reply @LittleRedSocks
I already had a blood test booked for later this week so will still go, do you know if chemical pregnancies show up on bloods?
We have been trying to conceive so it is crappy news! X

It depends on how much HCG had built up in your system - they might suggest repeat bloods a Day or two later to see if HCG going up or down. I’m so sorry xxx

Hi @Laur2017 I’m sorry to hear that this could be a chemical.

I have literally just read on another thread that the op had bloods done at hospital and confirmed there would be evidence in the bloods if it was a chemical.

I’m not sure though but just wanted to post so you see that it probably can.

Again I’m really sorry x

I’m sorry OP, sounds like a chemical pregnancy.

This is where your egg is fertilised but fail to implant.

That’s not quite correct, LittleRedSocks. A chemical pregnancy is when the pregnancy fails after implantation, but before the fifth week of pregnancy. In order for a pregnancy test to be positive the embryo has to have implanted as it’s the implantation that releases HCG, the hormone which turns a test positive. An egg that’s fertilised and not implanted won’t show on a pregnancy test.

It’s a miscarriage OP, just a very early one. Before pregnancy tests women wouldn’t have known it was anything other than their period, similarly for women who aren’t trying or testing.

Sometimes the HCG takes a little while to disappear but it usually happens quickly with a very early loss so I’m not sure what the blood test will show. Bear in mind sometimes bleeding does occur in pregnancy and it doesn’t always mean you’ve lost the pregnancy, however if it’s more than a bit of spotting and is a full period-type bleed I’d say it’s best to assume you’re no longer pregnant.
