TTC over 35?

My husband (32) and I (34) have never had children and don't have fertility issues as far as we know. I'm currently doing a masters which I'm due to complete in January 2020 when I'll be 35 and we're planning on trying after then. I understand that it it's harder for women 35+ to become pregnant, how long did it take mums over 35 to conceive? Also what do you recommend we put in place to improve our chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy please? Thanks in advance.

Hey just seen this. Also 34 and doing a masters that's due to complete next year but we decided to start trying regardless because time waits for no one! If we get pregnant I'll defer the final year and finish later. my mum has said she'll be live in babysitter (she's desperate for grandkids she has none).

It was tough call to decide to start trying because I want to make sure I finish my masters but decided to go with what life throws at me.

Let me know how you get on 😘

I started TTC with DC1 on my 35th birthday. I got pregnant first attempt. With DC2 I was 37.it took 6 months and I had one early miscarriage. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies. I've already deffered a year due to an injury and neither set of grandparents live locally.

@SallyWD thanks for sharing this. My mind goes on overdrive thinking about all negative stats about pregnancy over 35 but I'm just going to focus on stories like yours so thank you for the encouragement!

@Mrshaller I'm sure you've made the best decision for you and it's great to know there are loads of success stories out there. Best of luck xxxx

Both of you keeping/getting to a healthy weight, giving up smoking and moderating alcohol might help. But if one or both of you has an issue, there's not much you can do. We started ttc when I was 34. Both healthy. I had a baby at 38, on my 4th round of ivf, due to "unexplained infertility". A fertility mot wouldn't have flagged anything - we were fine on paper Basically you can't know how it will go until you try. I have plenty of friends that have fallen pregnant easily well into their forties.

You could start ttc maybe 6 months before your course ends if you are worried about time running on.
