Chlomid (another thread)

Hi all,

I posted a while back pretty much deflated and resigning to the fact I’ll probably never have another baby (one DS 7) anyway today I’ve had a blood test to see if I’m ovulating.

My GP has said she will look into treatment depending on my results. So after a LOT of googling, mumsnetting and general internet searching, I am guessing that the first offer of treatment will most likely be Chlomid.

I’ve heard some really positive success stories and now I’m getting hopeful again, I have of course seen people say it just didn’t work for them but the good seems to outweigh the bad.

So just ahead of anything I’d like to hear your stories, as I say I’m feeling hopeful again, how did chlomid work for you and is it really the miracle drug?

It worked for me first cycle, but sadly I had a mmc at 9 weeks after seeing the heartbeat at 7. So it did work. I do wonder if it causes 'bad' eggs that wouldn't normally be in the running to get fertilised to be released though 🤷‍♀️

AllHopeAndNoResults · 29/06/2019 00:16

I’m sorry to hear that, it’s horrible when something like that happens when you’ve been preparing for that exact thing.

Would you use it again? I’ve read somewhere that people have concerns about it bringing forward the ‘bad’ eggs.

I’ve heard so much positive about it but then I hear the cases like yours which are horrible for anyone.

I mean it’s supposed to help with ovulation it isn’t actually getting the egg fertilised so when I think like that I guess it is a 50/50 isn’t it.

I hope you get a good result soon x

I think I would use it again. I’m waiting for the tests to come back in about a month to see if it was a chromosomal problem, but in the meantime I’m focussing on egg health and taking lots of supplements as recommended in the book ‘it starts with the egg’ so if I need to take the Clomid again at least I’ll have done everything I could to ensure I have the best chance of a decent egg. There are lots of positive stories out there, but from doing extensive reading it seems there are just as many stories like mine! Good luck with whatever you decide to do x

Sounds like you are doing all you can to ensure healthy eggs so good luck with it all!!

I’m confused really, my blood results came back and the dr had prescribed me with vitamin D tablets as I was low apparently, but she’s mentioned nothing to do with the fertility which was the reason for the bloods!!

Is this a reason for infertility?

It’s all so depressing and heartbreaking.

Thank you and good luck to you too x

I have a clomid baby and he definitely isn't a bad egg, OP. I don't think (could be wrong here) that your GP can prescribe clomid. I think it needs to be a fertility doctor so your GP's action would be to refer to the fertility clinic. Clomid is free, unlike IVF, if you already have a child. It worked for me after 4.5 years of actively trying. I have PCOS.

As a PP mentioned, you can ask your doctor about egg quality support supplements, and CoQ10 which may support fertility and PCOS.

Cherry321 · 02/07/2019 19:11

Clomid worked for me the first month!! Made me bonkers though. Very irritable (PMT x 10000) but all worth it.
I have PCOS and they monitor you pretty closely on clomid because of the risk of hyper stimulation (lots of follicles releasing eggs)

Give it a go. Lots of luck Smile

Thank you so much for your replies.

I’m taking it all on board. I have to see my GP Monday and I am so desperately hoping we can move forward!

I’m just worried they won’t refer me because of my low levels of vitamin d. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I really hope it can go alongside one another.

Constance1234 · 02/07/2019 21:50

I don’t know if low vitamin d can cause problems when ttc, but before I went on the Clomid my consultant told me to take vitamin d and omega 3 supplements, so there might be a link. Sorry I didn’t ask why I just followed his advice!

AllHopeAndNoResults · 02/07/2019 22:17

That’s helpful. How long was you on vit d before being offered chlomid?

I’m guessing you wasn’t able to take them together? Sorry for the questions I’m just trying to prepare myself to be told they can’t help yet 😭

I was given the Clomid at the same time as having the vitamin d/omega 3 advice. Fine to take any vitamins/supplements alongside Clomid as far as I am aware :)

18 months trying for DC2. Got pregnant on second cycle with 50mg clomid. I was temping religiously though so I knew when I ovulated - much later than in a 28 day cycle. So important to understand your cycles first. Clomid baby is asleep upstairs - 5 months old on Sunday. Good luck!!

AllHopeAndNoResults · 02/07/2019 22:52

Constance thank you that has given me hope again!

Since2016 thank you for sharing I love hearing success stories such as yours. It gives me hope it will happen for me.

Thank you guys!
