MRI Scan in 2WW

Hi everyone,

So I'm due an MRI Scan tomorrow, booked a while ago. But I've just realised that I'll be 7/8dpo at the time. I know you're not supposed to have one pregnant but there's no info from my hospital surrounding TTC and having one. Has anyone experienced this tomorrow and what should I do? With almost other things I'd just carry on as normal until I received a positive test but I'm not sure if there's any risks associated with this? I can test tomorrow but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't show up yet... torn as this scan is much needed but obviously wouldn't have it if it had consequences. Thank you! X

They'll ask you some safety questions and if there's any chance at all you might be pregnant, they won't be allowed to go ahead with the scan. They may rebook it in two weeks time for after you've done a pregnancy test. I'm in the same predicament myself.

Ahh thanks @Squiff70 I thought this might be the case. They asked me all the safety questions upon confirming my booking and at that time there was no chance I could've been pregnant. Do you think I should ring up and ask them today, just to save wasting everyone's time tomorrow? I'm probably not pregnant but I've already had a MC this year and don't think I'll stop worrying if I have the scan then later find out I'm pregnant! Hope you get sorted! Xx

Definitely ring them today and tell them you've been trying for a baby and can't rule out pregnancy for another 7-10 days. They asked me to ring them on the first day of my next period to book an appointment then refrain from TTC until after the scans. MRIs don't use radiation but the strong magnetic forces could affect a pregnancy.

phone them and they will rebook for after your period arrives/ or after tthe first trimester - there is no known risk to the fetus but most centres prefer to wait until 12 weeks. You can't have the contrast injection however at all during pregnancy .
Please remember if they suspect something serious on your scan it may be better to have the scan sooner rather than later so discuss with your doctor as some centres are overly cautious.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27599330
Exposure to MRI during the first trimester of pregnancy compared with nonexposure was not associated with increased risk of harm to the fetus or in early childhood.

Thanks @Squiff70 and @Carriemac been trying to get hold of them but no luck so far, so will keep trying! The reason for the MRI isn't that serious, although I would've liked to have it so I can move to the next stage of the process! So think I will be able to postpone. Thanks so much for both of your advice x
