Copper Coil

I'm 34 and DP and I discussing TTC first child. I have had copper coil for past 7 years (replaced once), implant for 7 before that and previous on pill. My doctor says I would be fertile as soon as it is removed but have read online that it can take a while to settle. We aren't planning until August/September so do not want to have it removed too early. Any advice appreciated.

I had mine taken out in November 2015. Didn't get pregnant until ivf in June 2018 (despite nothing 'wrong' being found). It might happen the first month of ttc and it might take years. I'd get it out sinner rather than later...

Wow, thank you for your reply. That's certainly given me good for thought. I'm glad to hear you managed to conceive in the end x

It's impossible to plan exactly when you'll become pregnant... it could be instant. Or not. I was 31 when coil was removed.

80% of couples will fall pregnant within a year. Why wait a couple months? Unless you've travelled to a zips country, are having health investigations, are going through a period of family emergency etc...? If it's a case of waiting 'just because', I'd seriously crack on!

For contrast, after 5 years with a copper coil I was pregnant the month after it was removed.

It might happen immediately. It might not. You can't tell till you start trying.

It's also worth asking your GP about wait times. I've got a 3 month wait time...which is making decision-making a bit trickier, as we have a move planned. But I'm waiting until we get to the next location, as they may have a shorter wait time (and that way I'm not going to fall pregnant before a cross-country move).

I would work out the very earliest you would be happy to be pregnant and get it removed then. So if Aug/September would be ideal but you'd be fine if it happened tomorrow, get it removed now. If Aug is the absolute earliest it would be possible, wait until then.
As PP have said, it's impossible to know how long it'll take to get pregnant. I would say keep in your head it's most likely to happen within 6-12 month range but it could be much sooner and it could be even longer. It took us 18 months the first time then the second time was instant.
Good luck!

Both times I had mine removed at the start of my period and conceived the same cycle. The nurse who removed one warned me that if I'd had sex that week it was possible to get pregnant immediately once the coil was out.
