Laparoscopy

Hi there,
I've just been booked in for a laparoscopy on the 2nd July following 2 mmcs. The specialist thinks I have scar tissue from my d&cs and also suspected endo.
The op is right in the middle of my fertile window and I have been told that you're 'extra fertile' post laparoscopy. Wondered if anyone else on here has had one and can share their experience with what happened to their cycles after, how long they waited before ttc again etc?
Any advice / experiences would be much appreciated!

Hi. I had one on March. My next period was a week later than it should have been, the one after that I ovulated later than “average” but my period was exactly two weeks after that, so a slightly longer cycle. Currently in tww for this cycle.

Nobody told me I was any more fertile after the op, and obvs no BFP. It took me longer to recover than I expected, but I have stage 3 endo and a frozen pelvis so not in great nick.

Thank you @Pinkstars2501 sounds like you have been through the mill. Wishing you lots of luck for a BFP xx

Hi @Gpmg84 I had one last month. Same as @Pinkstars2501 it took me longer than I thought it would to recover but it didn't effect my cycle at all. They did a test before which was BFN. Just got my period this month so unfortunately no BFP after but I hear it can help increase fertility with some cases inc endo. Speedy recovery Thanks

I had one in Jan and conceived in March after 19 months of trying. Sadly ended in mc tho.
It took me longer than I thought to recover from the op, but my cycle wasn't affected.

@Pinkstars2501 @RoxyP @squirrelnutkins1 thank you! Very sorry to hear you have all had to go through this...
I'm meant to be starting a new job that week, did you need several days off work? I know everyone is different but be v helpful to get an idea from others that have been through the same! X

@Gpmg84 I felt crap in bed for about 2 days with very bad pain in my shoulder and chest from the air they fill your tummy up with. After that I just felt bruised and sore for about a week. I had it done on a Friday so spent the weekend in bed, was back to work on the Tuesday x

I had one a year ago today, my friend who is a practice nurse told me I'd be more fertile afterwards. I wasn't able to dtd the deed in my first fertile window afterwards as was still healing but I fell pregnant in the July, sadly ending in mmc in October

squirrelnutkins1 · 05/06/2019 14:23

I must be a real wimp! I'd say the pain was worst for two days and then just uncomfortable but the effects of general anaesthetic lasted about 3/4, meaning I was totally exhausted constantly!

Suzie2287 · 05/06/2019 17:16

I found the pain in my shoulder worse than the pain where they made the insertions!! I had a laparoscopy in Jan 2016. We conceived first month of trying in April 16 which sadly ended in a miscarriage, but we conceived again in August 16 and I have a 2 year old little boy sitting here with me. Been trying for number 2 for a little now with no luck.

Michellebops · 05/06/2019 17:35

@Suzie2287 I forgot about the shoulder pain 😭

I'm due to go for another laparoscopy this month as I have more cysts.

Suzie2287 · 05/06/2019 18:05

@michellebops that’s what I’m worrying about with me. I was told a year ago that I had a few cysts and it looked borderline polycystic but all my blood tests have come back normal so nothing more has been done and I’ve pretty much been told because I already have a child, they don’t care 🤷‍♀️ I’ve always had Gynae issues and when I had my lap, they said they had removed a lot of endometriosis as well even though I’d never had an official diagnosis of that and I do think that helped me conceive so quickly with our first. Now I’m worried all the cysts and endo have come back. But I’m not sure they will do anything now that I’ve got a child 😔

Michellebops · 05/06/2019 18:38

@Suzie2287 I have a 3 year old already too.

I went to my gp in March complaining and she referred me for a pelvic ultrasound which showed up a 4cm cyst. She also sent me for day21 tests.

When the results came back that I had another cyst she referred me to gynaecologist privately as I have private healthcare.

I'm 42 so not much more there can offer me.

At the consultation appointment it was agreed that I needed another laparoscopy to remove it.

The op has been quoted as costing £500 which isn't too expensive.

Giving it a couple more months to conceive and give up if it doesn't happen

@Suzie2287 I'm probably having a laparoscopy in 2 or 3 months and I already have a dd. I think as long as there's a gynae issue eg pain, very erratic periods or whatever and not just an infertility concern then they should do it. I saw a dr privately but he's asked my gp to refer back to him as an nhs patient.
