Planning a baby - is this right?

Okay so myself (25) and my SO (27) have decided to plan for a baby, we don't want to start TTC until January of next year because we want to get our finances right, our health in better shape etc - in September I'll be starting university and I'll be working part time, my husband works full time - do you think we'll be able to manage a pregnancy and a baby in these circumstances? Financially I think we'll be okay, especially with student loan and childcare grant but I don't know if we're making the right decision - is it selfish to try and do it all at once?

No it's not selfish. There's never the perfect time to have a baby. On your side you have time - you're only young so you can go for it in January or delay things for a couple of years until you've finished your degree so you have more time to focus on your child(ren), or you can do things now whilst you're young, fit, healthy and financially stable.

What I will say is if you leave things, you may find you have a differen set of problems to contend with in a few years - as I say there's rarely a 'perfect' time to have a baby. Lots of people juggle education and work with childcare. It's HARD but entirely possible, especially if you have the right help and support.

Whatever you decide, I wish you every success in your studies and your future family planning.

You will be fine. I had my daughter half way through university and went on to graduate at the same time as I normally would. I almost dropped out but so glad I didn't.
