Hello! New here and hoping to find some support, reassurance and encouragement!

In a same sex relationship. Met my beautiful partner 2 years ago. We wish we’d met when we were younger.... but here we are. I’ve just turned 42 and we’ve been having initial tests and consultations at a clinic (after first going to GP last November).

Plan is IUI with donor sperm.

Process seems painfully slow so far.

Clock feels like it’s ticking hugely and we understand the wait for suitable donor sperm could be a few more months through the clinic, so we’ve been trying to understand how international sperm banks could work.

Costs are terrifying. We are thinking we could perhaps manage 3 attempts at £2k each roughly? But I’m scared this means the odds of success might be ridiculously low.

Tests showed my fertility still seems ok. But I’m feeling so ‘old’ when all the information is about younger women - and I’m very anxious. Would love to hear stories of older women who’ve been through IUI. And from other lesbian couples.

Feeling a bit isolated and anxious.

Hi OP, I don't want to rain on your parade but would advise you to think carefully about IUI - the odds of success at age 40 - 42 are less than 5% per cycle at most clinics. You would have better chances with IVF - around 10 - 15% per cycle, although I'm unsure of IVF costs using donor sperm - I imagine they are high as standard IVF is expensive enough!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do 😊
