Private Pelvic Scan

Has anyone paid for a private pelvic scan?

I stopped taking the pill in October, had no withdrawal bleed and had no period since

I have been getting pain and the very odd touch of spotting, so the doctor has referred me to a gynaecologist

They called today to confirm they’d received the referral but that the wait is 18 weeks!

I’m considering going private for the scan, but not sure if it’s the right way to go.

Do it. Think you’d be looking at about £250.

If you go to a private hospital you'll be looking at a cost of £250 +

Perhaps you'd be cheaper looking into a healthcare scheme like Westfield health or bupropion as if anything shows you can further the treatment without the extra cost.

In saying that you can get a pelvic ultrasound privately through the nhs at a cost of around £40 although the waiting list is 18 weeks you can call the freephone number and 1 ask where you are in the list and 2 if you can be put on the cancellation list due to unbearable pain.

Good luck

Thank you both

Annoyingly I can get private health through work but only just realised, and the fact I’ve already had the referral means they’d treat it as pre-existing and I wouldn’t be covered

Didn’t realise that about the cancellation list though so I’ll give that a go, the pain has been that bad I’ve been to A&E twice but they keep saying it’s probably kidney stones even though nothing is showing on blood tests / x rays

Check out your private healthcare, although you've had the referral you've not actually attended for treatment so not really pre/existing unless you're not already a member of the private healthcare.

I'm with Westfield health plan and I need the original gp referral before transferring.

FYI I was referred in May 2017, got pelvic ultrasounds every 6 weeks from July, saw the consultant in September, I had an ovarian cyst. Op scheduled for feb 2018 but due to illness and holidays booked I didn't get the laparoscopy until June 2018.

I fell pregnant in the August, sadly missed miscarriage at 12 weeks scan. Been trying since New Years and still not pregnant.

I've been referred for another ultrasound.

@Trying81 I would sign up with your private medical plan ASAP. Like @Michellebops said, it cant be a pre-existing condition if you don't know what the condition is.
