Hello,

Wondered if someone can help,

I came off the pill late march after deciding to try for a baby with my partner, the thing is I still havent had a period, I did expect to have a 'false' one shortly after coming off but have had nothing, im also not pregnant as i have tested, but need to know if i need to have a period first before i can become pregnant, I was on the pill for 6years so im thinking its going to take a while for my body to get back to normal

If anyone can help would be great

Thanks

It can take up to six months but go see your GP if you are concerned.

you dont NEED to have a true period before falling pregnant, but it does actually help to work out when u concieved instead of guessing.

Lucymarie,

The pill actually leaves yours system very quickly after you've taken the last tablet.

If you have not had a period since March then you need to discover why your periods have not returned. Often hormonal imbalances are to blame for such circumstances - in this regard a condition called polycystic ovaries is a common culprit. Another possibility for a lack of periods is thyroid problems. Whatever it is you need medical advice from your GP. A blood test can and should be done to see what your hormone levels are like.

BTW there is no evidence to suggest that the pill is responsible for failure to ovulate. What it can do though is mask symptoms of underlying problems and I think this is what has happened here.

Please go sooner rather than later to see your GP.

Attila - while amenorrhea can be indicative of PCOS, it can just be a reaction to the pill which can take a while to clear. Lucy marie - perhaps you could look here. You should also make an appointment to see your doctor to check your hormone levels.

Was it a pill where you never had a period by chance?

The contraceptive pill leaves your system very quickly after the last tablet has been taken. It certainly does not stay for months on end.

Contraceptive measures like depo provera can take far longer to leave the body; infact I have read advice to the effect that if a woman has not completed her family then this should not be taken.

LucyMarie

Your story sounds similar! I was on the pill for 13 years (most recently on Cerazette which stopped my periods altogether). Took my last pill on Apriil 22nd and didn't get af until 7 weeks later in early June...

I'm now on CD32 with no sign of 2nd af and was hoping cycle may have been back to 'normal' (whatever that is for me!) and may be pg, but BFN when tested on Monday. So, just waiting..

I have since heard that Cerazette in particular can play havoc with your cycle...just incase that was the pill you were on!

Hello Monthlymahem!

The pill was Femodene and i found it suited me fine, i had no side effects atall with it, Ive booked a docs appointment for next tues so i will see what the outcome could be then, Im thinking it's just taking a while for my body to become normal and be back in a regular cycle again but it has been a little while now so i'm really not sure, and as im now trying its annoying as i cant work dates out and things neway hope it all goes okay for you.
