Period pains & back ache

Has anyone been through anything similar to this... I have very irregular periods (maybe 3 or 4 a year normally), and haven't had one for over 2 years (birth of dd in the middle of that).

For the past 10 days I've had the sort of aching that I would associate with being about to get AF - slight period pains, and achey back - but no show. I have done a couple of PG tests but both BFN.

Anyone been through similar? I have recently read of ovulation pains but have no idea what they are like, could this be them?

Thank you

Ovulation pains, called mittelschmertz, usually last no longer than a couple of days, sometimes only a few hours. They're similar to period pains and tend to be on one side I think.

Scrubs
I've been getting the same but I'm hoping it's a sign of being preggers cause I'm a day late - so could be either that or ov pains for you. Or af pains I suppose.
It's a waiting game I think. But 10 days is way too long for af or ov pains I would think. I've had mine for about six days now.
Sorry I can't be more help. If you go to the search threads bit and type in key words you'll get all the threads that have been written about this before which might help.
Keep us posted please! Would love to hear how you get on.

Thank Treenie (I admit I spent most of Sunday doing key word searches on the threads, so I don't really know what I am hoping to hear - I guess someone to say "yes that exact same thing happened to me and I was pregnant"...!).
Good luck to you!

Good luck to you too Scrubs! I really would like to hear what happens so post it back on here and I'll let you know if my back pain turns out to be a good thing too. I am going mad symptom spotting at the mo! So would be lovely to think we had the same ones and that I'm not a freak of nature!

i was in pain for the first three months of being pg with my dd, i was at epau all the time with it and they concluded it was just my sensitive uterus growing hope this helps )

I have a feeling I am going to tell you what you perhaps are not ready to read but here goes anyway.....

If your periods are this irregular I would seek answers as to why this is. Such problems can be often caused by hormonal imbalances - in this regard a condition called polcystic ovaries or its related syndrome PCOS are common culprits. Thyroid problems can cause irregularity as well; it is important that blood tests are carried out.

Such irregular periods like this would also mean that ovulation is not occuring regularly if at all.

Would seek medical advice about these problems as soon as possible. Do not put up with it!.

ScrubsDownWell · 10/07/2007 14:29

Thanks Attila. I've considered PCOS etc and been to the doc's for hormone tests in the past - all quite normal though. I have got a dd already so know that I can (or could) get pg, and have only been trying for 4 months this time round so not going to worry just yet (on the outside, anyway!)

There is a caveat re the blood tests - did the GP originally compare the level of LH against that of FSH (if these were both measured that is)?. If not, the test is meaningless.

I would visit the GP sooner rather than later - something is amiss here.

ScrubsDownWell · 10/07/2007 14:35

Gosh no idea! I've had it tested twice, once about 10 years ago and once about 3 years ago. Would that be on my records?

Oh and also Attila - if I did have thyroid problems or PCOS, what would they do about it? (You sound like you'd know...)

Any tests done over six months ago should be discounted; you need up to date test results.

I would think that your bloodwork would show up a problem; please see your GP and have a blood test done.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost; then they can work on the treatment options.

Hi Scrubs - I've just come off the pill and I'm CD 26 - I'm getting mild cramping and not sure if it is AF on its way or signs of pregnancy so I guess we're all in the same boat.. Maybe try temping next month so see when you ovulate and then you will know when your AF is due so at least you'll know if you are late. Plus go to your doc as Atilla knows her stuff
