Baby aspirin - does it help when ttc? Willing to try anything now....

Hi girl

I haven't posted on here for a while as have been trying to stay away as much as possible. We are on month 12 ttc now and I am just losing the will to carry on with it all now. Have been doing all I can using my clearblue fertility monitor, having reflexology, taking vitamins, B6, EPO and BDing all the time all to no avail so far.

I have read somewhere about people taking baby aspirin when ttc. Does it help? And does anyone know what it is taken for and when and how much to take? I'm willing to take anything now.

Beena x

Hi Beena,

If you have been ttc for 12 months without success then it is time for you as a couple to see the GP. Your GP may want to do some simple initial investigations like a blood test for you and a semen analysis for your man.

This should be done as well with a view to getting a referral to a gynaecologist at a subfertility unit.

You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Aspirin should not be taken without medical supervision with regards to ttc.

As far as I am aware baby aspirin is taken to thin the blood in women with a number of miscarriages due to blood clots forming in the placenta.

Have not heard anything about using it when TTC.

best wishes for the future.

Thanks girls. I have had my inital bloods done and they were all fine and normal. Hubby is having sperm test this week so will see what that says. It's just so frustrating all this ttc lark. I thought it would be so easy and everyone keeps asking "when are you two going to have children" and I have to keep saying "oh, not for a couple of years, no hurry" when inside I am dying to have them.

I took baby aspiring when ttc. From what I read it helps to increase the blood supply to the uterus and can be helpful in conception and can also help to prevent miscarriage, altho my dr. said to discontinue it once I had my check-up. Have you also tried taking cough syrup? It's a certain kind described in the link.

Beena · 10/07/2007 17:18

Thanks Jabberwocky. Do you mind me asking how long you took the baby aspirin for and how long you were ttc for? I tried the cough medecine last month with no luck but am going to give it another go this month. did you take bpth the baby aspirin and the cough medecine together?

I did take them together although I only did the cough medicine during ovulation and did the baby aspirin all the time.

We did conceive the 2nd month we tried, but as I was 41 at the time I do think that it may have helped. I also took the other things you had listed i.e. vitamins, folic acid, b12, and epo.

I was obsessive at checking cervical mucous for optimal conception times and also charted my cycle for several months before ttc. Never did temping tho.

Some MNers have had good luck with the Isis Scope. I had thought I would try that if we did not succeed in 4 or so months as I felt time was running out.

Beena

DO you have a copy of your bloodwork results?. Were your LH and FSH levels tested and most importantly were they the same?.

At 12 months of ttc you should be referred to a gynae; think you are beyond the stage of temp charting and such like tbh with you. You both need further tests.

Beena · 10/07/2007 17:42

The doctors just told me that my LH and FSH levels were normal. LH was 4.4 and FSH was 7.8. Should they both be the same?

Am going to book an appointment for me and hubby to go and see GP to discuss what else they can do to help us as feel like evreything we are doing is useless.

Okay, this is something that may seem a little ott but I did it. After reading a book called Spirit Babies I meditated on my spirit baby both before ttc and while pregnant. I worked on assuring him that he would be in a safe loving place and that we were ready to welcome him with open arms (of course I didn't know the sex at the time)

Anyway, that may not appeal to you, but I just thought I would share.

Beena · 10/07/2007 17:49

Thanks Jabberwocky - am willing to try anything to be honest at this stage! Am so pleased it allw orked for you after just 2 months. That really is amazing. I wonder if all the things you did and took helped or whether it was just fate that it was meant to happen.

I know, it's maddening how random ttc can seem, isn't it? I have a friend who is within 3 months of my age and having some problems with conception. It made me a bit nervous when telling her about pregnancy with ds2.

Beena · 11/07/2007 09:22

Indeed it all seems to be so random.

Now I am worried my LH and FSH readings are not normal as they are not the same. Attila can you help? Do you know what my readings mean?

HI Beena

www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hormonelevels.html

The above may be helpful to you. Your LH and FSH look okay to me even though they're not completely the same. I was glad to see that your LH was not higher than FSH.

Have they ever done a day 21 test (a day 21 is a standard blood test used to measure progesterone. This will tell whether ovulation has happened in that month or otherwise).

I would still ask to be referred on as a couple to a subfertility unit; it does not appear that any tests have been done to see if there are any male factor problems.

Beena · 11/07/2007 12:38

Thanks for this Atila. It's really useful. Hubby is going for his sperm test later this month so we'll see what those results show. I am definitely going to ask our GP for some more help and investigations to be done as well.

Beena x

Beena - I took it after a MC whilst TTC again because I have a blood clotting disorder. I wouldn't have taken it otherwise because I've read that aspirin can be quite harmful to a pregnancy in someone who doesn't have blood issues. I hope you get your baby soon hon x
