Short periods after stopping pill

Hi, wondering if anyone’s been in the same situation.....
I am 31, I have been on microgynon since I was 17, dr changed my pill to desogestrel in sept/Oct as I was having headaches..however I only took 1 packet then stopped taking them altogether. Had my first bleed at beginning of December but only lasted 3 days and was only properly bleeding for 1 day, same again on January then didn’t bleed until 28th Feb, same again though only 3 days. (TMI) also had diarrhea the day I came on and for the 3 days I was on-never ever had this before!
When I was on the pill I always bled for at least 4/5 days....anyone else have short periods? Should I be worried?
Thanks! Sorry for long post! X

Forget everything you thought you knew about your period - bleeding on the pill is a breakthrough bleed, not a period.

It could take awhile for the new normal to settle in.

I had the mirena coil and had no bleeding while it was in. Since having it out back in August my periods have been really, really light the same as you describe. It hasn't stopped me getting pregnant twice (though one has resulted in miscarriage and the other I've only just found out about so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!).

I don't think my miscarriage was related to light periods as if there was a lining issue I feel like the embryo wouldn't have implanted in the first place (not that I've looked it up).

Oo good luck with your pregnancy! X

Thanks! Anyway the point I was trying to make is don't worry about the length of your periods. As long as they're there you're probably fine. Mine are seriously so light!

I can't remember what it was like after I came off the pill - but what I have learnt about my periods is that they have changed a lot over time - and sometimes over the course of a year. I used to have full 7 days of bleeding when I was a teenager. Heavy, and awful. Now, I have periods that tend to be between one and three days of 'real bleeding' and the remaining days just spotting/dark discharge that requires a pantyliner - but it can really vary month to month for me...

I came off the pill in July after being on for ten years and my periods are a lot lighter than when I was on the pill. I have one day of full on bleeding then two days of very light bleeding. My periods are regular and I haven’t missed one but they are definitely shorter and lighter. Don’t know what this means!

I'm the same!

I was on microgynon for 12 years (18-30) and over those years my period got lighter and lighter until I only really needed to use pantiliners! I came off it in 2016 and they have never really gone back to normal, still was only having a day at the most of red blood followed by a bit of brown sludge for a couple of days. I'm 7 weeks pregnant now but it has taken a year and a half to get here and I'm sure crappy lining must have played a part. I found drinking raspberry leaf tea and red clover for the first half of my cycle, and vitamin b complex for the second half seemed to help quite a bit! Good luck, hope things improve!
