Hey lovelies!!

Thought this could be a great thread, full of food to avoid/indulge in whilst TTC!

Whether it's an old wives tale, a legitimate medical reason or personal experience!

I want to hear what your no go foods are and what foods you stock up on whilst TTC!

This may help others, including myself who are sick of google and want some real life opinions! 🤓

All the things you can't have once you're pregnant! (As well as a healthy balanced diet with a folic acid and vit D supplement of course)

I even made a little bucket list of things to eat pre-pregnancy and made sure I ticked one or two off each month I got my period, helped keep me smiling.

I was told to follow the SOS plan - spinach, olive oil, salmon. Or rather generally leafy greens, Mediterranean diet, and low-mercury fish. I've also been making sure to switch to full-fat dairy instead of my usual semi-skimmed milk and low-fat yoghurt, and lots of eggs and chicken for protein. I cleared out the chocolate and bought a load of dried fruit for snacking and it's really easy to get in the habit of actually wanting dried apricot or mango or a satsuma instead of sweets now. I cut down on caffeine massively, too - got myself a jumbo bag of the decaf Tetley's. I'm hoping because it tastes exactly the same, I can fool my brain into thinking I'm getting a hit of caffeine all day at work.

I'm finding if you really fill your refrigerator and cabinet with new healthy stuff, it becomes fun to try a new routine. And if you make a habit of eating lots of salad you don't have to worry about whether you're getting enough folate/folic acid.

Oh, but I had my last sushi meal for a long time on Valentine's Day. We went to a lovely place and I indulged on a massive amount of raw fish, savouring it slowly because I know that's off the menu from now on. WaaaaahSad

You can eat sushi while you're pregnant - EU rules mean fish has to be frozen before being prepared and this kills any parasites in it. Check the NHS website!

Good to know, @Newyearsameoldshit - my concern though is food poisoning after it has been thawed and is sat out for hours. My favourite place is reputable and I've never had trouble with their food, but bad tuna elsewhere gave me a terrible time! Suppose I should skip the tuna altogether though, for the mercury risk.

I fell pregnant once before and did everything by the books. Non smoker, don't drink, avoided soft cheeses, sushi, any uncooked meat (not even cured salami or cold cuts), ate all the right foods (cooked at home had tons of protein, spinach, veggies, fruit etc), walked every day, took pregnancy vitamins, napped , enjoyed and unfortunately it still ended being a miscarriage. I was happy and healthy so after that experience it seems to me like what you eat matters very little. I'd go for the junk snacks next time around, maybe give into your cravings (as long as those foods are not known to be particularly harmful). Whatever is meant to be will happen regardless of what you eat I think. But I know figuring out what you can and can't do is part of the fun, I'm just trying to put yourminds at ease in case you ate a bag of crisps and feel bad about it Grin
