Thinking about TTC #2?

Anyone else toying with the idea? I was on a “waiting to ttc” thread but I’m not really waiting, just wondering about it, I suppose!

We’re moving back to our home country after some time abroad, shortly. I’m currently on holiday with extended family and it’s such a great help, I suddenly feel like we could handle another- whereas when alone with DS1 abroad, it’s felt like another would be an unnecessary challenge. I’m past the time when another would be medically inadvisable (DS is a little over a year). And there’s a month old baby here that I just want to EAT UP, ahhhh!

Anyone else? :)

Oh yes.... I have a plan though so I have time to save up so I can have a good amount of time on mat leave.

I have a friend with a little baby... I love my 18 month old but I feel like I want to carry and have another baby....

At least I have managed to convince my dh that it will be ok and we can love another

Niffler2019 · 14/02/2019 22:34

Yes same here.... we've been tossing around the idea on & off for the past year. Think we are going to take the plunge & try again this year.

We already have a 5 year old daughter. It feels like if we don't go for it now we never will!

Niffler2019 · 14/02/2019 22:37

How old are you happygolucky if you don't mind me asking? I'm fast approaching 36.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 14/02/2019 23:35

@2birds1stone that’s good! I have the opposite problem, my DH has been keen for months! Ideally I should wait another 4-5 months, go back to my job in the U.K., settle DS into nursery.... but that baby has made me so broody!

@Niffler, not at all, I’m 28 and my DH is about to turn 30. So we have time to delay if we want... I suppose at 36 time is less on your side.... how do you feel about returning to nappies and sleepless nights?

I'm not far off you niffler but dh is having a big birthday this year. So we will be stopping at 2... dh doesn't want to be a "old" dad.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 15/02/2019 12:04

After a bad night’s sleep (my own fault and not baby’s!), I’ve woken up less keen on number 2. And I really ought to go back to work first..

When do you think you might start trying? Am toying with the idea of telling DH on his 30th next month that we should start trying properly.

June/July time. I will be approaching my next birthday. Dd will almost be 2. So I would have been back at work for a year... and then about 20 months or so by the time I go off again. Gives us a while to save money, dd1 will be able to get 30 hours nursery while I am on mat leave and then be going to school a few months after I go back to work again.

(Told you I had a plan) of course that's if I managed to conceive quickly. If it doesn't happen in about 6 months then I possibly will resign myself to only having the 1.

Sleepness nights are a pain but I am used to it now.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 15/02/2019 17:07

Yeah... June/July would be a more sensible time for us too. Your plan sounds great! No pressure Wink

I just find it too easy to get wrapped up in the romance and excitement of TTC, and ignore the sensible voice of reason in the back of my mind!

There was no romance when we ttc number one..... I told dh the nights we had to do the deed for optimum conceiving..... managed to do it the first time...

HappyGoLuckyGo · 16/02/2019 15:06

Okay, fine, romance isn’t the right word! But certainly the excitement and uncertainty (we tried for several months). We have so much up in the air right now that I can’t really make a solid plan... but then o remember how rough I felt, how interrupted my sleep was etc when I was pregnant, and I wonder whether it’s better to just get it out of the way now or wait til DS is older...

If you are working. Personally I would work out how much money you would need to be comfortable on smp and then work out how much you can save a month so how long it will take you to save enough to be comfortable.

Don't forget with number 2. If you haven't kept all the stuff from number 1 then you will need to re buy. Then if you go back to work you will have additional child care fees.

That's why I factored dd1 age into everything as well so I could make sure we wouldn't be struggling to pay for the basics.

But they say there does never tend to be a good time really and we make do and get by.

HappyGoLuckyGo · 16/02/2019 16:29

Luckily we still have everything from number 1! So won’t be expensive in that regard... we’re very fortunate with our jobs so I’m not concerned about finances whilst on mat leave, it’s more a question of whether I’d be committing career suicide as I’ll only be back at work in April, after 15months away due to DS and the year abroad with my DH’s work. Argh. Decisions, decisions!
