Advice: uterus didelphys/septate diagnosis

Hi all,

First post here-wondering if there is anyone on here who might be able to offer some advice.

Not currently TTC but hoping to next year. Found out by chance (during smear test) that I have 2 cervixes. 6 months later I've had an ultrasound and an MRI to try and diagnose what it is.

The ultrasound results said it was a complete septate uterus which cause the consultant to refer me for an MRI to confirm as then they would do the op to remove it. The MRI also said it was complete septate uterus. However after all this the doc said it was uterus didelphys and no need for the op. When I asked him why he thought differently he said that the people doing the scans "probably didn't want to commit" whatever that means. His report says "a complete septate uterus in keeping with uterus didelphys".

I am SO confused after months of him telling me he was trying to distinguish between the two he's essentially written it's both. Also I had read that the shape of the uterus is normally the giveaway in diagnosis between uterine abnormalities and both scans said it was a normal shape like a septate uterus would be....

Any advice or experiences would be so welcomed. Maybe I'm just not understanding what he's said but I've heard that misdiagnosis is fairly common and I'm just very confused!

Thanks xx

Can you get a second opinion?? Ask him more questions. Why one diagnosis over the other? Why both diagnosis? What criteria would you need to fulfil one over the other, etc...

Sounds like communication is an issue, which is shot for you, but he doesn't have to live with the consequences.

Thanks physicskate for replying. Yes so frustrating as I didn't get the results till after the appointment. I certainly will ask for clarification but I know have to do so through my GP who has NO idea what I'm on about (when I told him I have two cervixes initially he sat in stunned silence for a good 30 seconds haha). Worth persevering though...
