Hi i'm 39 later this year and my mum can't remember exactly but her menopause was in her early 40's (my gran had a hysterectomy after 3rd baby and my maternal aunties was a little later).
So the problem is I really want a baby, and I know it's mumsnet but (confession) i'm yet to become a mum! For health reasons the time hasn't been right until now but in the near future (within year) we hope to start trying. I can't afford any private treatment - he's in his late 40's - anyone in the same or similar boat and also is there anything we can do to improve our chances? I wondered if there are any charities which might fund fertility treatment for fist time parents (he's never had a child either - but we know his work).... Am feeling pretty doubtful about it all at the moment - I want to just say "leave it to fate" and be super chilled about the whole thing but really i know I will be gutted to run out of time now i can finally start trying....

Have you talked to your gp?

Take prenatal vitamins. Live as healthy s possible. Track your cycles. If you're not regular think about ovulation sticks.

There are many fertility treatments. Most people don't need expensive ivf to get pregnant if they need extra help.

Anyway, I know plenty of women who got pregnant between the ages of 40-43. Some even accidentally.

Thank you both for replies. I am planning to talk to my GP soon, I'd really like to find out what state my egg reserves are in but as am not actively ttc at present reckon they'll say no to that...
Thanks for the tip re ovulation sticks - am taking folic acid and generally trying to look after self too (though need to do a lot more exercise :P ) I think I need to do a bit of research about what treatments are available and costs and where etc - thank you lovelies - given me food for thought xxx :)
