TTC with PCOS after Miscarriage

Hey,

This is the first time I have posted on here so I hope I am posting in the right area.

I am 25 years old and I have been TTC for 15 months now. I was diagnosed with PCOS in the summer of 2018 and in October I was given a 6 month prescription for Clomid.
However, in November (before I had a chance to start taking Clomid) I found out I was pregnant naturally. This was the most amazing news and we were completely over the moon.

Unfortunately we sadly lost our baby at 8 weeks on Boxing Day 2018. Our hearts were broken.

It has now been 4 weeks since my miscarriage and my questions are this

Should I get back in touch with the fertility clinic to explain what happened?
Can I begin taking Clomid again from the start of my next cycle (the first one after the miscarriage) or should I wait?

Really looking for some positive stories of people that have been through similar and have PCOS.

Many thanks

Francesca x

Sorry to hear about your loss. I would tell the clinic so they know and can advise.

I have PCOS and am also on metformin. We have an increased likelihood of miscarriage apparently and there are studies showing metformin and clomid are more effective than clomid alone. I got pregnant naturally in Oct and had a chemical, and have just gotten clomid. It's a tough experience isn't it x

Thank you for your response Orcinus...

I will give my clinic a call and see what they say. How long did it take for your period to arrive after your loss? My cycles were so irregular before I fell pregnant and I am worried it is going to take forever for them to regulate again.

How does Metformin work? Do you take it constantly or just the first 5 days of the cycle like Clomid?

Sorry for so many questions! It really is a tough experience all of it... the PCOS is just adding to my worries of falling pregnant again, as I have also read that having it can increase miscarriage risk. xx

heey, i am currently ttc with baby number 2 (and have been now for 4 years!! Oh and i am now 26) and also waitin to find out if i possibly have PCOS, just wondered how long it took for them to diagnose u?

I was on clomid roughly 2/3 years ago but sadly ended in a ectopic pregnancy. luckily didnt need a operation my body just passed/absorbed naturally. but they never put me back on clomid afterwards. Though i do find the clomid did help! as it was i think my 2nd or 3rd cycle on it i fell pregnant after no sucess for over a year. I did ask about going back on it recently but they told me theres no actual evidence of it helping to conceive

Hi Julie,

My doctor took a load of blood tests in the summer of last year and they came back inconclusive. I was then referred to my local gynaecologist/fertility clinic where they carried out an internal ultrasound and confirmed that I had PCOS. The only symptoms that I have are irregular cycles (some times lasting more than 40days) and my internal ultrasound showed some cysts. I was then referred to have HSG x-ray to confirm that there were no issues with my tubes, which there are not. At the end of October I was prescribed Clomid.

So, all in all I would say it took about 3 months for me to get diagnosed with PCOS.

I am keen to give Clomid a try but I am nervous about the side effects etc - did you experience any whilst you were on it?

I am also concerned about falling pregnant again and staying pregnant, as all I keep hearing is that PCOS increases miscarriage.

I called my gynaecologist this afternoon and they have booked me an appointment for next Tuesday to discuss my options - so I will ask them then about Metformin.

xx

I am currently waitin on bloods but they wanted to wait til my partner had his sperm test done and give us results all in one go and he only went today soo its killin me not knowin specially cause i am now 10 days late! (BFN tho) ive had hsg xrays before & omg i cried through both! Lol

My last scan she seen a cyst and im back on 6th feb to see if its disappeared, she did say my ovaries looked like pcos type slightly but cos i didnt have other symptoms she doesnt think i do have pcos.

As for clomid it was a long time ago now but dnt think i did have any side effects etc it did help regulate my periods.... if what u say about pcos and miscarriage is true it could explain my two miscarriages but i think they never truely know why miscarriages happen..

My cycles are a bit irregular but it came back pretty much as normal four ish weeks post chemical.

Metformin isn't licensed for PCOS but my (NHS) consultant is adamant I should take it. I take 1500mg a day split into two doses. Usually people with PCOS are insulin resistant and the metformin improves your body's resistance to it supposedly and helps your hormone levels settle. I have felt better on it but my periods are still a bit weird, I think that's due to an outlier cycles though so they can be quite short.

I've been worried about another loss, but sadly haven't even managed to get pregnant since! Stupid PCOS! xx
