How to choose where to get a Vasectomy Reversal

Hi,

Hope you can help, I am new to Mumsnet but don't really know where to turn. If you google vasectomy reversal you get absolutely inundated with websites offering amazing success rates and great all inclusive prices but how are you meant to figure out the good from the bad? I live in Oxfordshire so to do it through our local clinic is really quite pricy and I want to know if there is a way if we were to travel elsewhere in the country it would be cheaper without getting scammed by someone dodgy online. Does anybody know of any legitimate private clinics for vasectomy reversal or if we are limited to using our local clinic due to our area.

All and any advice welcome, this is the start of a long TTC journey for us as I have my own fertility issues so we want to get on with it ASAP :)

Thanks in advance!

Hi, we are in the same position, although in a different part of the country. I have read a lot online about types of surgery/size of stitches/number of stitches etc etc, and it’s terribly stressful to try and choose a surgeon! Our final choice surgeons are going to cost £2900 with an 80% success estimate, or £6100 with a 96% success estimate.
It feels mad to pay so much! But from what we’ve read, the key to success is the time taken for the operation, hence the price. Ie only one operation per day, full microsurgical reversal, and the use of 16 sutures rather than the basic 4.

Not sure if this helps, it’s just what we’ve been told...

Duncan Harriss in Nottingham is one of the most popular surgeons mentioned on mumsnet, btw. Our reluctance to go with somebody like him who does multiple operations a day is that my partners vasectomy was 15 yrs ago, so we’ve been told that he needs a vasoepididymostomy rather than the usual vasovastostomy which should take 4 hours. Hence we don’t believe the surgeon should have the time to operate on a further 2 patients that day!

They will schedule into consideration what procedures they are doing

Typo - taking into consideration
