Trigger shot/hcg shot

I'm having my cycle tracked this month, I go in on day 12 to see if I have any follicles.
Does anyone know if you can have the hcg shot if you haven't been on clomid?
And how did you feel after the shot? Any side effects? I'm nervous about over stimulation. Thank you Smile

Overstimulation happens when you produce too many eggs. Have you been taking stims for this cycle?? On a natural cycle, hcg doesn't cause you to produce more eggs, just to release what there is (and ripen it). Triggering with hcg would be a clinical decision for the clinicians to make.

As far as I know you can have the trigger shot with no medication. I’m pretty sure that’s what I did for an unmedicated frozen embryo transfer...
I had many trigger shots over a couple of years & never had any side effects. Hope it’s the same case for you. Good luck!

No stims. Had my appointment too late in the cycle. I'm hoping they'll still do the trigger though otherwise I feel like I've wasted another month.

Triggering when a follicle is the right size simply allows you to control when you ovulate. And therefore time sex so that you know when you ovulate. Follicles typically ovulate anywhere from 17-35mm. Average is probably more like 22mm.

You could suggest it, but the follicle might not be of the correct size by day 12. On a natural cycle, by day 12 you should see 1 (or at most 2) dominant follicles.

Hyperstimulation only happens when using stims.
