Can anemia affect fertility

Me and my partner have been trying for 4 months to fall pregnant, he had tablets for Anemia when he was a teen but never followed through with the treatment. He is constantly tired and we will be going back to the gp for this but I’m just curious if this could be a reason it hasn’t happened yet?
Or will the tablets reduce our chances even more? I have had one child with a previous partner but he has no children
Thanks

I know that it can be a factor if the mother has it as it means your iron is low an you need good iron levels to help with conception but with it being the father im not sure, i know testosterone levels effects their sprem but not too sure on what a lack of iron does to sprem count or quality, i will look though as thats interesting. I know also that it can take up to 12 months for a healthy couple to conceive so 4 months in is perfectly normal and does not suggest any problems, depending on age, if you are under 35 then up to 12 months is fine but if over 35 and nothing after 6 months then look in to possible reasons.

Anaemia is not always a lifelong condition. It can sometimes be resolved with diet.

At 4 months ttc, you are still less likely to be pregnant than still ttc. It's not as simple as they taught us in sex Ed.

I fell pregnant so easily with my first it happened the same month I come off the pill, I am just starting to worry maybe I am over thinking things but these last 4 months have felt like a life time every period I get I’m becoming less and less certain that I will fall pregnant. My mum fell with both of my sisters & me with my little one in January so I’m hoping this month is the month

So you hit the lottery the first time! That's all.

I didn't hit the lottery, as didn't over 70% of people who try to conceive. Your previous luck has no bearing on trying this time - and it's with a new partner.

There is no need to worry at all with ttc such a short time (even if it feels like a long time, it's not!!).

But it still isn't a bad idea for your partner to get checked for anaemia - it's not good for his health to have it long term.

@sko123

Your worries are the same as mine! I also fell pregnant straight away with my first & I am on my third cycle trying for my second. I think you immediately feel the worse & more of a shock that it didn’t happen first time next time round. I have had bad thoughts that I never conceive again but I know that is silly. We need to be positive!

Thank you all, we Do need to stay positive! I’m coming up with all sorts of ideas or reasons in my head but I just need to face that nature will have its way no matter how many gadgets and vitamins I buy lol
