Unexpected infertility

Hey guys, first time I've ever posted on a forum like this!! So me and my husband have been ttc for over 5 years. We've been told by doctors after having all the usual tests that it is 'unexplained infertility' which is a bit frustrating because I can't understand why can't conceive if we are both healthy. We do try as regularly as we can, periods are like clockwork and blood tests showed I do ovulate. I do have an under-active thyroid which is managed by taking medicine and the doctors said that as this is being managed, it wouldn't cause an issue. Just wondering if anyone else is going through anything similar or had similar experiences? Thanks

More or less the same boat here 5 years TTC, regular periods no identified issues with either of us had NHS IVF last June and tomorrow I'll be 31 weeks, still none the wiser as to why conception can occur outside of my body but seemingly not inside of it's own accord. Have the doctors suggested what your next step / options are?

Hey, thanks for the response! So IVF worked for you? The NHS was going to put us on the waiting list for IVF but they said my husband's BMI was too high and he had to lose weight, he lost all but a few kilos but as it took a while, they decided we'd have to start from the beginning and get referred all over again, bit frustrating but I'm thinking of going private. However we've been told his sperm count is fine (he's been checked twice) I've had scans HCG etc and all fine. I'm so frustrated by it all.

One of my friends had unexplained infertility so she had IVF on the NHS and it worked, she has a 15 month old and is now expecting her 2nd naturally!
She was saying that she thinks her body didn't know how to get pregnant before but now the 1st pregnancy fixed it. Definitely look into IVF!

Another friend was trying for 10 years and even IVF didn't work a few times, then she naturally fell pregnant and had her first child, and then 2 years later she started trying and fell pregnant almost right away! She's now a mum of 2. It's so strange how our bodies can surprise us..in a good or bad way.

We were very lucky that IVF worked first time for us and I'm so grateful to the NHS. I had to lose weight aswell as my BMI was over 30 but I did my fitness pal combined with the 5:2 and I shifted what I needed to, it helps to keep you motivated when you've such an important goal. Good luck.

I would start looking at health. For example, if your partner is overweight...he should perhaps lose weight to get to healthy range. And same for you. Being overweight can effect fertility. I have read about women who lost weight and then fell pregnant. I wonder if it can be the same for men and their sperm?
