Hi guys,

I’ve read up and advice seems to be to keep active, and keep to the exercise routine you were doing before falling pregnant, whilst ensuring not to overdo it.

Just wondered, in practice, other pregnant ladies are doing? I want to keep up my Body Combat and Body Pump classes as long as I feel OK to, both are non contact but quite tough classes - depending on how much you push yourself (ie what weights you lift)

There’s a quite heavily pregnant woman in my BP class that seems to be keeping up with her pre-pregnancy level of strength.

Very new to this and obvs don’t want to do ANYTHING that could pose any potential risk

Not sure about body combat/pump specifically, but I was told I could carry on with anything I was already doing during my first pregnancy (now TTC#2). I ran until I was 32 weeks pregnant. I know that the old rules about keeping your heart rate below a certain level no longer apply, but I believe you should not exert yourself beyond the point where you can talk to someone.

I'm not familiar with Body Combat, but I'd have thought Body Pump would be fine. When I used to do it my average HR didn't go as high as when I do a normal cardio workout. Obviously be careful about straining as relaxin can make that easier to do.

I'm not pregnant yet but I've done quite a bit of reading up on this already as I'm very keen to be able to keep training if I do get pregnant. This is probably the best book that I've read about it.

Bodypump is fine in pregnancy, there are some alternative exercises and adjustments here: w2.lesmills.com/files/GlobalCentral/news/MI_45%20Pregnancy%20Brochure%20A4.pdf

LesMills does not recommend Bodycombat, as due to hormones your joints are looser and in theory you could injure yourself. As I had been doing it for many years, I personally felt fine and kept going.

Thanks all for the information! I did Body Combat yesterday and found myself holding my bumpless tummy, feeling protective when jumping around etc.

KatharinaRosalie I think I will continue as well, I felt fine doing it yesterday I just skipped the abs workout at the end. As long as the risk is only on me, not my little peppercorn I don't mind.
