Managing period pains whilst ttc

Hi all
I’ve just on my last pack of pills before I come off to Before I went on the pill my periods were really painful and managed with ibrupropen every 4 hours 4 x a day. I was advised by the practice nurse to not use ibrupropen when ttc but didn’t eeally offer any other ways of managing the pain just said it would be worth it once pregnant and whilst Obviously I hope I get pregnant quickly so don’t have to deal with this too much but being realistic I know I need to be prepared! Any tips?

I'm feeling this OP! Didn't know about the ibuprofen though, I practically live off them when AF comes!

I try and manage with hit water bottle, cups of tea and hot baths, there really isn't much else.. other than a good old fashioned cry in the feotal position.. every month.

Mine are horrendous, make me sick, doubled over in pain. Not sure how ill handle labour as I want to jump off a cliff when I'm in my period.

Hand hold for you!

I took ibuprofen and OTC co-codamol for period pains when TTC. The latter is what helped the most. I wouldn't worry about taking it while TTC - if you're taking it for period pain, then you won't be taking it later in your cycle when implantation will be happening anyway.

I have awful periods too. Been checked & there's no cause as such, just really unlucky!

Never knew about the ibuprofen though - did they give you a reason?? I ask because I've been TTC for a while now & I take ibuprofen religiously during my period.

It’s nice to know I’m not alone ladies! It’s horrible knowing how painful and Poorly I’ll feel and trying to explain to DH that I won’t be very well (it’s pain rather than mood swings that get me but obviously pain isn’t good for mood!) as he’s never seen me off the pill! I’ve just got to remind myself it’s for a good cause I hope not too far in the future!
Apparently it can impact on ovulation and because it thins your blood it can potentially make implantation more difficult- she did say not to beat myself up if I have to take it but try to avoid it where possible. I think it’s not a hard and fast rule where they 100% say don’t do it but as she said there was some evidence that it can have an impact on few key things I want to try and avoid it if I can!

I downloaded an app to track my ovulation, and it tells me my chances of getting pregnant through the month! My highest chance is 1 day before ovulation at 33% chance!
Interesting app to have, I think it helps me feel like I have a bit more control. It's called glow!

I nearly always use ibuprofen during my period for pain relief. I’m a nurse myself and have never heard of it having an impact on ttc. It is definitely something I will do more research on over the weekend. As a drug it has such a short lasting effect (6-8hrs) that taking it during your period is not going to impact on the rest of your cycle in any way.

Am on tww myself at the moment and had horrendous back pain today (work related) and stuck with the paracetamol and heat pack

Did she maybe mean don't take it at other points of your cycle in case you're pregnant because ibuprofen can be bad for the baby? During your period you're not likely to be pregnant so I don't see what the issue is.

It will be fine to take ibuprofen for period pain because you won’t be pregnant. Remember you can only take it 3 times a day. You can also take paracetamol at the same time but is best to leave a few hours a parts so the pain relief is not starting and finishing at the same time to maximise pain relief from them.
