Hi everyone
We are planning on starting TTC in 2019 and coming off the pill in Feb in the run up to that I’ve been doing some reading up and think starting to take a specialist conception multivitamin would be a good idea.
I’d originally thought I might just take the folic acid and vitamin d ones (boots do a combined one) but I’ve read some research that shows the multivitamins can help not just with healthy development but ovulation and conception.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
The vitabiotics pregnacare conception seem most prominent but I’ve heard they’re hard to swallow also see boots do their own version but really just looking for any recommendations?

Thanks so much can’t wait for this part of our lives to begin!

I’ve used zita west and new chapter. Not really sure to be honest what is the best.

There isn't a 'best' one as some people react badly to certain ones. What I mean by that is that over the years some women report that it throws their cycles out of whack and they stop ovulating.

Just have a balanced diet and go for the folic acid/ vit d.

Midwife told me just take vitamin d and folic acid as your body pees half of pregnacare out anyway.

I've started taking Boots own brand conception vitamins. I read the contents of quite a few and it seemed to be the best value. The Pregnancare ones did have the most vitamins in but they didn't agree with me with my first daughter.

Take folic acid in good time so you build it up in your system. I started taking a high dose b12 too around month 10 of TTC to see if it would lengthen a short luteal phase and that month I did get pregnant - could have been a coincidence!

I've taken Seven Seas. Pregnacare didn't agree with me and made me feel sick.

Jen306 · 01/01/2019 15:37

Thanks everyone for the comments. I'd heard mixed comments about pregnacare with quite a few people reporting they'd didn't get on with them or reacted badly with them in various ways.

@magpie24 I plan to start taking the folic acid (or multivitamin containing it) this weekend. Does b12 help with that? I'm justness starting all my research beyond the basics!

@jen306 I'm in a similar quandary!

We're planning on ttc in spring this year aiming for an ideal time of year for maternity to fit in with my job - if we miss it no big deal but thought we'd try to aim there first. Over Christmas I've been researching vitamins to take starting now to get my body ready. I've ruled out pregnacare as quite expensive and mixed reviews on side effects.

I think I've come up with 2 options but no idea which is the best idea!

  • seven seas trying for a baby
  • folic acid with vit d (combined) + vitamin b complex (+ maybe zinc?)

Not sure which to go with though!

We took pregnacare him & her. Didn't seem to help concieve, in fact the month we finally concieved we had ran out Blush but DH's skin and my hair looked amazing! I have trouble with big pills (cheap giant paracetamol and some antibiotics) but had no trouble taking them.

magpie24 · 07/01/2019 14:22

@jen306 supposedly it does help with short cycles but could have just been a coincidence that I got pregnant that month! Probably not worth taking it yourself until you've been trying for a while
