I literally don't know where my period has gone if I'm not pregnant! Normally regular, every 4-5 weeks, but no sign of it over 3 weeks after it was due and 5 negative pregnancy tests so far...
Keep hoping for a line, however faint but I'm starting to think something else must be at play, any ideas?!

It's common - there are several threads on this right now. It's cause by late ovulation or anovulation. Mostly women don't experience many of these cycles because hormonal birth control masks them, so it's normally when ttc when you notice.

Your cycle is dictated by when you ovulate. You can ovulate on any cycle day, but the time between ov and the start of af is fairly static (called luteal phase and normally 11-16 days). This is why women track when they ovulate - so they can tell exactly when af will arrive (or would have a positive test, which would also be much later if you ovulate late).

Not much you can do about it, see your gp after your second missed af and they might (or might not) give you a course of tablets to start your period.

Good luck.

Thank you physicskate, Google was pretty rubbish at helping me find useful information that alleviated concerns and told me this is totally normal! I have now found the other threads you mentioned and feeling a bit more reassured although obviously I'd rather it was just a case of low hcg, but hey ho! If it's not meant to be I shall try and stop stressing! :)
