Can I ask your experiences..?

...and what to expect from being referred to the 'Fertility Clinic?' (UK).

Been TTC for 19 months. I'm 34, DH is 44.

I've had blood tests and DH has his analysis and all seems good so GP has advised we're to be referred to the fertility clinic.

What is this magic place and how can it help us conceive?

I'm a bit bewildered (+ exhausted) by the TTC roller-coaster (I'm so over the two week wait...again and again). I spent so long trying NOT to get pregnant and now desperately trying - it's a mind-funk.

Thanks in advance for any experience.

The first appointment will need both of you. You may be given an internal ultrasound. You may be offered more tests (such as an hsg or hycosy to check tubal potency). They might do more bloods and another sa.

The 'fertility' clinic only deal with couples suffering from infertility and thus it's their bread and butter. Many gps don't know too much about it.

Your process will be individual and unlike anyone else's, I'm afraid as they will be looking at why YOU as a couple haven't conceived.

They are also able to offer assisted reproductive technologies (art) if tests reveal that would be helpful. This generally involves ovulation induction, iui or ivf.

Lots more info on the infertility board.

Best advice I can give is get to know your results and what they mean. Know what tests they're running and why. Be your own advocate. And read 'it starts with the egg.'

Good luck.

Thank you so, so much, this is really helpful - my GP really couldn't furnish that much information so I feel better now for knowing something, at least!
