TTC Blues with PCO

Hi Guys :) First time poster on here and hoping for some moral support.
Myself and my SO have been actively TTC for the past year, however havent used contraception for over 2.5. Ive always had irregular periods, sometimes lasting months without AF showing up. Over the past 18 months they have become more regular, somewhere between 34-42 days, I can noramlly tell when O is going to show up, tender breasts, bloating, EWCM, and this normally lasts anywhere from 3-7 days. However ive never had a positive OPK. then every cycles a BFN shows up :(

Ive recently been to the GP who has sent us both for testing. My bloods have come back normal (well they havent highlighted anything to me), but by ovaries have between 8-12 cysts on them. They havent diagnosed me with anything and have advised us to keep trying, assured me that im ovulating and booked me in for a laprascopy to check the patency of my tubes next year.

Please tell me there are other people out there who have PCO but no PCOS? What does this mean for me? do I actually have PCOS? Im neither hairy, heavy, spotty and dont have thin hair. help!

xx

Good morning, Op. I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time with conceiving. Your story sounds similar to mine. My GP was reluctant to look into PCOS because, like you, I'm not overweight, overly hair nor do I have bad skin, blood tests were normal. But I had really irregular periods. Then I had a miscarriage (which was devastating but at least I knew it was possible to get pregnant).

In the end (this is cutting a long story short!) we paid to see a specialist privately. She did an ultrasound scan and found that I had cysts on my ovaries and wrote to my GP referring me for a laparoscopy and diothermy, which I had. I became pregnant again quickly but had another miscarriage.

I saw the specialist again and she thought my problem with low progesterone, which resulted in the miscarriages. I was prescribed clomid, then as soon as I had a bpf, went onto progesterone supplements.

I'm really happy to say that finally, this worked - twice. We now have two lovely DC.

So - please do not loose heart or give up. It is possible. I'd recommend seeing a specialist - privately if you can because it's much faster - it really pushed things forward for us and meant that I didn't have to suffer a third loss before my GP would look into it.

Hi ikabod
Thank you so much for your reply - it's really helpful to know that there are others that have had a similar problem, and that there is light at the end of the tunnel! However it's deveststing that you had to experience miscarriages and go private before anything was done.
I think that if nothing continues to happen for the next few months I will look into private tests. But I will wait for my laproscopy as maybe the answer is in my tubes (I am however very doubtful).
Thanks for your help xx

It's thought up to 30% of ovaries are pco and it is a normal variant. I have pco. Conceived through ivf after ttc two and a half years. Other than pco and a fibroid, we were considered unexplained infertility.
