Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of advice really.. I came off the pill in Feb and have been trying since then but have only had 2 periods in that time (in July and September) so I'm not sure if I'm actually ovulating.

My skin has been incredibly spotty since coming off the pill and it's really getting me down.

I'm really worried I won't be able to get pregnant and want to check I don't have any underlying issues. When did you ladies first visit a doctor about fertility worries? And what did the doctor say? I'm really nervous about making an appointment.

Any help much appreciated
x

Depends on your age whether a doctor will do anything - if you’re over 35 and trying for six months you’ll be offered tests. If younger I’m not sure what the criteria are but the NHS website should have some ifno

Your GP will say try to conceive naturally for a year before they do any tests. That doesn’t, however, make the wait any better. Do you have any gynae problems like Pcos or endometriosis? If not, hang in there a few more months and hopefully it’ll happen! The pill shouldn’t alter you fertility after you come off it really for any significant period of time, the only proven method of contraception that delays fertility after you come off it is the injection. Everything is different for each woman though. Best of luck Flowers

I'm 31.

What tests do they do? Surely I can just say I've been trying for a year already?

You could! Although if you picked up your prescription from the GP they would know when you last picked up a pack. But assuming you did that in 3 or 6 monthly sets, yes, if I were you I would consider going a bit earlier than a year. Most do conceive within 12 months though. They’re not just setting an arbitrary figure on it, there’s a lot of evidence that the vast majority will have conceived by month 12 of regular sex.

They’ll check your hormone levels and also most likely your thyroid.
