Short, Light, Painful Periods

I originally posted this in ‘Women’s Health’, but got no responses - still not sure this is the correct topic?

I am trying to become pregnant by donor insemination. The last meeting/insemination with my donor was in July (negative pregnancy test after 2 weeks, plus start of period), but since then I have had short periods (3 days), which are light (I wouldn't say they are ever more than mild-moderate in intensity - I change pads because it should be done, not because they're saturated/need it, if that makes sense), and incredibly painful (taking co-codamol for the pain, which is thankfully short lived due to the brevity of said periods).

This has only been the situation since the unsuccessful insemination attempt - before, periods were irregular (I have PCOS), moderate-heavy (at times very heavy), and lasted 5-7 days.

At the risk of sounding stupid - could the failed insemination have caused this effect? I can’t think of a single way it would have, but I guess you never know. Is it worth mentioning to my GP (I have regular appointments for a different reason)? It just seems a bit bizarre to mention to the GP, and I hate to think I'm wasting anyone's time.

Anybody else experience this? I'm reassured that the periods seem more regular at the moment - 31/32 day cycles - but they're just so short and painful. I also seem not to have ovulated for the past 2 cycles (I track my temperature, so even though I haven't met my donor, I've still been charting).
