I am 30 and by hubby is 28. Married for 2 years and we always talked about having a family after the summer of 2020 as we wanted to go to Tokyo for the Olympics (big sports fans and I've been to every Olympics since 2008) have been thinking about conception and I'm starting to get really worried that it's not gonna happen for us if we wait that long. My absolute best friend in the world is due with DC#1 in February and its got me thinking about our timing... I'm starting to worry that if we wait until 2020 and have difficulty then I'll be too old! I've always thought that 2 children is perfect (replace you and your spouse) but if I really love the experience I'm not opposed to three.
I guess I don't know if what I'm asking can be answered on mumsnet but how do you know if you should start trying for a baby? I think I'm just terrified as even though I'm 30 I feel like I'm still about 26!

Anyine have any books I should read about trying to conceive, family planning or the like?

Your still young in my books, I am 35 and 39 weeks + 3 days pregnant with first child ( had same concerns but didn’t feel in right place for a a baby. I was lucky and got pregnant first try. Didn’t even start to figure out ovulation.

All I did was come off the pill around 5 months prior to reset my body, take folic acid and evening primrose oil.

But I am lucky, my mate also 35 tried for 6 months she is 29 weeks now.

I have heard of it taking longer for couples... or as me and my husband discussed we have spent our whole sexually active livess trying not to get pregnant we didn’t even know if either or both of us were able to.

Maybe see if you can have a test to see how fertile you are or see how your ovulation works to ensure regular ( there are loads of ovulation kits you can get )

It is nerve racking and I get your concerns but you both have to be wanting it at the same time.

It’s strange isn’t it that in your 20’s you presume you will be truly grown up in your 30’s and like magic over night you will feel grown up.

You hit 30’s and it doesn’t happen... I still don’t feel grown up by the way... but what won me over was I know I wanted a baby and the concern about my biological clock out bid my inner child.

But in my eyes you still have time x x

I can see your conflict. We waited a hear as we had a trip to NZ planned. Allow for it taking up to a year, but hopefully much quicker for you. I understand the body clock thinking entirely but equally you are both huge sports fans, Tokyo 2020 will only happen once. And going there with a baby would be a very different experience, going anywhere with a baby is a challenge! So go with your gut.
