Nurse convinced I’m pregnant despite negative tests

Hi, this is my first post, so I’m a bit nervous. Been ttc for around a year, with not much success. Then I missed a period in September, tested but came back negative. I haven’t had a period since and so I was getting very worried, along with that I’m feeling very tired and gaining weight. I’ve been taking tests every two weeks since September. So I decided to see the nurse today, she was very nice and told me she was certain I’m expecting. I have to do some blood test as well but she was so convinced.
Has this happened to anyone else? Being pregnant despite no positive tests?

Well she shouldn’t of said she was certain you were pregnant Shock

I haven’t been pregnant despite a negative test, but there is a theory that after a certain amount of weeks a pregnancy test will show negative, despite being pregnant. It’s called the hook effect.
My period is currently quite late, but I think it’s more hormone relatated. Have you had yours checked?

Good luck

Yes I was quite shocked when she said that, she didn’t do anything else, just booked me in for a blood test!

Hmm that’s interesting, thank you, I’d never heard of the hook effect before but have looked it up, and it seems possible. I calculated that I’d be about 8 weeks by now, so that’s given me something to think about!

It's a bit irresponsible of her to tell you you're pregnant without doing any tests, especially as a missed period could be caused by many other things.

If you were getting negative tests just after you missed your period and a week later, the chances of being pregnant are less than 1-2%.

Hope the nurse is right though and fingers crossed you get good news!!

I really hope that the nurse is right but I agree that it was irresponsible of her to say that.

I once had a doctor tell me that she thought I was pregnant and I wasn't. I was only 19 at the time so I was quite relieved but it was a lot of unnecessary upset.

Take what she's said with a pinch of salt and don't get your hopes up just yet xx
