2 miscarriages in a row after seeing heartbeats

Hi there, I'm currently going through my second miscarriage within the last 5 months. My first miscarriage was a few months ago, with monochorionic twins after seeing heartbeats at 6 weeks. My second (current) miscarriage was after seeing a heartbeat at 7 weeks. I have an almost 2 year old daughter (who I'm so grateful for), so I understand that rules out certain potential fertility issues. However I don't feel I have any real understanding about fertility and miscarriages and am keen to get more information so I can do what I can to avoid a third miscarriage in a row, or at least to understand potential causes better than simply assuming chomosonal abnormalities. I'd be grateful for any advice and/or details of London fertility specialists. Many thanks

Hi op, sorry to hear this. Must have been so hard. Firstly, just because you have a child doesn't mean no fertility issues - it's called secondary infertility and I'm suffering this, I have a 3.5yo and after 2.5 years of trying for #2, several early miscarriages and a failed first ivf attempt.

So I'd suggest getting to your gp, a referral to a fertility specialist and get onto what the issue is. It could be an easy fix of progesterone supplements, but don't just assume you're fine because you have one child already. I really hope you are fine, and that there's no issue, but better to check.

They tend not to refer on the nhs until you have a third miscarriage in a row... and it's because miscarriage is unfortunately so common.

I had two in a row (albeit they were longer apart) but hadn't seen heartbeats and they didn't do anything for me. Years later I'm sitting here pregnant (from ivf).

Even with testing, often a cause is never found. By all means, go private if you wish because your losses sound distressing to you. I'm very sorry you've had to go through this. It's shite.

I believe the recommended clinic is in Coventry??
