Chance of elective section causing infertility due to scar tissue?? Anyone conceived quite easily after one?

Hi,

I have a 9 year old DD. Ended up having a failed forceps/emergency C section with her.

Ended up having problems conceiving after her for almost 5 years. I have PCOS but managed to get this under control. Hysteroscopy/laparoscopy showed no issues with uterus at all, but did pick up on 1 blocked tube.

I am now pregnant with a son and would really love to have one more close in age to him if i’m lucky enough. My concern is if I go for an elective C Section, like my Consultant is recommending, can this affect future fertility? Is it likely after a second C Section I will develop scar tissue that would stop an embryo implanting? Has anyone else had more than one section and been able to conceive quite easily afterwards or would you recommend I try and get a hysteroscopy in the future to check before I try to conceive again?

3 c sections (1 emergency, 1 elective at the last minute, 1 "elective" because of 2 previous). No problems conceiving DC2 and 3, about 6 weeks each time. Good luck. x

Forgot to add, I was advised to wait 18 months between pregnancies to allow scar to heal properly.

@chilledteacher Thanks so much for this! So I guess in your case the C sections certainly never caused any scar tissues/adhesions that would make it more difficult to conceive. I think for my own peace of mind I may go for a hysteroscopy when my DS is about 6 months old for my own peace of mind and then start trying again.

Multiple adhesions apparently, there was plenty of grumpy muttering when I was being put back together this time and I was firmly told no more! Think I was lucky

I had 3 C-section's with gaps of 27 months and 5 years between them. No problem conceiving my accidental last two.

I have had 3 c sections. Conceived first try with dd2 after emcs with dd1. Conceived ds whilst still breastfeeding dd2 and hadn't started my periods yet after 2nd emcs. Adhesions mentioned after both 2nd and 3rd c section, but not ones that affected conception (although did cause problems with placenta position with ds).

3 c/s with all three 16-18 months apart...some with no period as still breastfeeding.
tubal ligation with the 3rd.

It shouldn’t give you any problems conceiving.

The risk in a future pregnancy is placenta accreta (where the placenta implants over the scar site) and uterine rupture (due to the weakness in the uterine wall), however both of these are rare.

Thanks for the reassurance.

Years of infertility have made me a nervous wreck with all things fertility/pregnancy. Will have a chat to my midwife and see if she can also offer some reassurance. I am so hoping to complete my family now that I have the option.
