Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone who has been TTC for a while and knows the ins and outs of blood test results etc can help me understand!

We have been TTC for a year without luck, mainly because my cycles are all over the place (last cycle was 80 days).
I have been using OPKs and last time in July it said I had peak fertility on cycle day 24. This time round, my peak fertility was shown as cycle day 22. On that same day, I had blood taken and my GP called me to tell me my progesterone level was 2 nmol/l which is very low.
She told me this meant I had not ovulated on this cycle however when I told her my OPK had confirmed that and said i was due to ovulate in the next 48 hours she dismissed this and said OPKs are a waste of money and that I definitely wouldn't ovulate on this cycle.

I have done some research and some websites tell me progesterone levels can be that low before ovulation and that for an accurate reading I would need to wait another 7 days after the peak fertility reading to show true levels. Other websites say it should never be that low! So I don't know what to believe.

Is there a chance I could have ovulated and, therefore, conceived on this cycle?
I am putting off medical procedures in case I am pregnant but if there is no way I could have conceived in this cycle there is no point!
GP is referring me to a fertility clinic so guessing I will get more answers there but could take ages to get an appointment!

Blood results were as follows :

TSH : 1.72 mu/l (normal)
Progesterone : 2 nmol/l
LH : 25.6 u/l

Prolcatin was done in June and was normal.

Anyone else have any similar results???

Wait for your referral. GPs are often well intentioned, but rarely experts. You should generally do a 'day 21' (ie progesterone test) 7 days before you're due on, which is generally about 7 days after ov.

Opks aren't useless, but they don't confirm ov and should be used with caution by those with pcos.

Lh is fairly meaningless unless taken day 2-5 along with fsh.

Your thyroid looks great!!!
