PCOS and trying to conceive

Ok so I'm 24 and wanting to start TTC June next year, I'm just looking for general advice, success stories( or not too successful to be neutral) into how long it could take, how to prepare my body and whether it's reasonable for me to believe I could still have my ideal family of 4 children within my fertile stage of life? Feeling abit negative about it all as all I'm told is "PCOS is the main cause of infertility in women" Sad

Hello,

The best advice I can give you is to make sure you are a healthy weight and to begin charting your cycles.

Buy a book called ‘Taking Charge of your Fertility’ by Toni Weschler it explains everything you need to know.

There’s some evidence to suggest a low sugar diet can help when you have PCOS so that’s something to google too.

I have PCOS & have two lovely boys. My cycles were all over the place but by charting my temperature each morning I could see a pattern of when I was ovulating.

Good luck!

I have pcos and had dd after one slip up with contraception. I have also just found out im pregnant after only a couple of months trying.

One thing I would say is that I keep my weight down, and I have been told this is the most important factor for women ttc with pcos. So much so that my recent scan was so so much better at 9 stone than it was when I was 12 stone. It makes a huge difference.

I have pcos too and a little boy. Healthy weight/diet is important. I was low GI/carb for a while before ttc and that did help enormously.

I had no luck with charting temperatures but did find the ovulation sticks (cheap ones from amazon) worked for me, although they don't for everyone with pcos.

Good luck!

I have Pcos and was overweight when I conceived. I conceived first cycle.

Avoiding dairy, sugar, and high GI foods for three months prior to TTC helped me, as did Angus cactus supplements.

I have PCOS and just got a BFP after a year of trying. Although I only started doing the following a couple of months ago: I ate a low carb diet (only carbs with low GI and no sugar), also no dairy. Exercised regularly. I took inositol and a prenatal vitamin. Everyone is different and there are lots of different supplements you can try.

Definitely agree you should start tracking your bbt temperature before you start trying to understand if you are ovulating naturally.

I really recommend listening to the PCOS Diva podcast as there’s so much helpful information on there! Good luck! PCOS does not mean you are infertile, it might just be a bit more of a struggle to get there but if you treat your body well there is a lot of hope for PCOS women!

Thank you all for the info and advice!
I've been using OPKs on and off for a few cycles just to see if any ovulation is occurring, I've noticed the line isn't getting as dark as it should be but there is still a slight increase (or could just me being optimistic) so not really sure on what my body is doing. I'll try the BBT method though and see if I have any luck with that. My weight is fairly stable but does fluctuate if I'm not careful, usually between 9st to 10 1/2st, I think that's still fairly healthy though being 5'5?
Have any of you been down the metformin or clomid route?

You need to use OPKs and bbt together because OPKs only detect an LH surge - they don’t confirm ovulation. Only a raise in your bbt confirms ovulation. Some PCOS women get multiple LH surges in a cycle!

Hi everyone, I'm TTC with PCOS too. This cycle seems to be anovulatory though the strips indicated I ovulated last month (I was just testing out of curiosity - we only started trying this month) so will try again next month. Might be a long road.

I have PCOS but slim so not sure whether I might have had less trouble than others conceiving. Only got diagnosed with PCOS when ttc and had had no periods for several months. Started metformin and got period almost immediately, conceived after my following period 6 weeks later. Currently pregnant with DC2, this time started metformin straight away and conceived quickly. Don't know if Metformin definitely helped or just luck but worth considering. Never used ovulation tests etc just dtd fairly regularly... I did also watch my sugar although not excessively.

I weigh the same as you at the higher end & im 5ft3 with pcos. I weighed 2 stone more than this & we didn't conceive for 2 years but when I lost weight (down to 10) I concieved my DD within months - naturally. Just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant with #2. I do think weight is a huge factor but yours sounds fine. Try & track your ovulation, if you're ovulating & your cycles are fairly regular I don't think you'll have any trouble.
