Hi everyone I’m TTC for baby Number 1, I’ve had to find another job due to my old shop thinking of closing so moved on. How long do I have to be in new job before I fall pregnant? As I’m terrified Incase I fall pregnant and then won’t be entitled to anything. But have been trying for 4 months previously with still no BFP just looking some advice please guys x

As long as you had your lmp whilst you are working for the company then you’ll qualify for SMP.

SweetheartNeckline · 23/09/2018 12:57

Look at maternity allowance. I changed jobs at 19 weeks pregnant and got that. However you don't get the 6 initial weeks of 90% pay like SMP, it's straight onto the lower rate of c. £140 pw I think.

Thanks ladies for commenting! @GoneForFood what is IMP? I’m just terrified Incase I wouldn’t be entitled to anything as obviously I have bills to pay! I just started last week. If I was to fall pregnant could they sack me or stop me coming back after maternity leave?

@SweetheartNeckline thank you! Is the £140 pw the Mat pay off the government? Is everyone entitled to this if they don’t get the other one?

lmp = last menstrual period

Lmp last menstrual period

Maternity allowance is £145 a week but check your eligibility as it says there is a lower rate of £27 a week too ...www.gov.uk/maternity-allowance

Hello,
Im in the same position so know how you feel! I have found that the earliest you can generally conceive is the cycle that starts after 2 weeks in your new position. However, this is obviously company specific- but that seems to be how it is for SMP.
Good luck xoxox

dementedpixie · 23/09/2018 20:23

You have to have been employed for 26 weeks by the time you are 25 weeks pregnant to get SMP. Basically as long as you have started working there before you get pregnant then you are eligible

Thank you all so so much! I find it all so hard to understand. I was gutted to move jobs thinking I’d have to put TTC off for a long time as we had been trying for 4 months previously but maybe that was a sign that it wasn’t supposed to happen yet! Good luck to you all & thank you again ❤️
